Onekama Frostbite Invitational April 22, 2005 |
The first annual Onekama Frostbite
Invitational culminated
in a victory for the Portager boys track team, who
took home the first place trophy after totalling 125
points. Facing down some tough competition in a field of
eight teams, the boys emerged victorious despite pressure
from Suttons Bay, Marion and Manton. Final standings
found Marion in second place with 110 points, followed by
Suttons Bay, 104.5 points; Manton, 86 points; Buckley, 50
points; Brethren, 26.5 points, and Mesick, 25 points.
Walkerville also participated. The Portagers streaked ahead in the standings after junior Ryan Brown and freshman Taylor Fraly placed first and second in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles. With the support of some strong performances by the 800 and 3200 meter runners, and a second place finish by the 1600 meter relay team, the boys remained rooted (as we rooted them to remain) in the top spot. Particularly exciting was the fact that all four relay teams improved their best times, reflecting the potential of these fleet-feeted fellas. Boys Individual
