Onekama Golf

9-13-04

While following the cart path for the back 9 looking for other team members, I came across this view of the 7th hole from a ridge. Absolutely gorgeous! The players have to golf almost in an L shape to get to the green. Chris is seen shooting here. While he missed the sand hazard in front of the green, he had the misfortune of his ball landing to the left of the green on the hill in the trees and weeds. Later he said the ball actually had to be shot off of rocks as well..not a good situation.

Nathan Griswold shot a 41 today on the front 9 at The Heathlands for OHS today, but his outstanding shooting wasn't enough to pull the team score into the lead. While each team member had excellent hole scores somewhere, they also had troubles somewhere along the way through the 9 holes. That is what the game of Golf is, the ability to overcome an errant shot if it should happen, shake off the last shot and make up for it on the next if possible. Each team member could be heard trying to take responsibility for the team loss. This is what is so neat about the OHS Golf team, they think of themselves as a TEAM and strive to improve team scores at all times. OHS finished with 198 as a team to Manistee's 165. Match Medalist was Manistee's Shawn Miehlke with 38.

Low man for OHS today was Nathan Griswold with 41. Jordan Pomeroy shot 51, Tim Veverica and Todd Lyman both shot 53's to round out the scoring four. Chris Smith shot a 58 as well as Josh Cebula a 58. Stephanie Carlson shaved some more off coming in with 60 and Kristie Sievert nailed a 60.

Team Manager Drew shot a 52 today on the back 9. Manistee's score of 165 came from Shawn Meihlke's 38, Ryan Tiefenthal's 40, Ryan Ganss's 42 and Tony Luck's 45. Also shooting for Manistee was Grant Plaxton with 45 and Will Richert with 60.

After tonight's match, the team still remains 1-2 in the conference, and is now 2-5 in Non-league and 3-7 overall. The Portager's head off for an 18 hole match tomorrow, 9-14-04,at the Lakeside Links.

Tim slumps slightly after his putt on the 2nd hole. Once again the ball choose to veer from the hole as if it was teasing him.

It's In! I really thought i had the ball as it was rolling into the cup, but it got there before my shutter and Tim finishes with Par for the 4th.

Todd putts for Birdie, but the ball seemed to hop right over the cup. Todd ended with a Par for the 2nd hole.

As if he were willing it to go in, Drew putts for Bogey as Stephanie looks on.

Jordan and Nathan walk on to the 5th hole after finishing the 4th. The 5th hole is a Par 4 and 336 yards.

Chris chose to tee off at the 4th with a 7 iron. His shot landed in the middle of the fairway avoiding the pine trees that like to reach out and grab your golf ball if you aren't careful

Drew puts his putter away and looks back at the 17th hole. He ended up with a Double Bogey, not the Bogey he had hoped for.

Nathan and Jordan with their playing partners from Manistee, walk up the fairway on the 9th after teeing off. It is 321 yards and a Par 4 shooting almost directly into the sun.

Josh putts out the 2nd hole as a playing partner from Manistee looks on.

It was very hot today, hot even for golf. The water stations along the front 9 were used a lot today!

Josh got out of the sandtrap near the 4th green without a "sandstorm", and putted for Par.

Nathan tees off at the 5th. It looked to be a nice drive.

Todd watches his balls flight after teeing off for the 4th hole.

Stephanie avoided the sand trap and used an 8 iron to get on the green at the 17th.

We continued on our way on the back 9 where we finally caught up with the rest of our Portagers on the 17th hole. Kristie was excited to tell me that she made it on the green back on the 15th hole in one shot! She finished with a Par for the hole. Here, Kristie uses a Pitching Wedge to get out of the rough on the 17th hole
