2004 MHSAA Baseball Regional

In a very good game that went into extra innings against Number One ranked Lake Leelanau St. Mary, the Portagers lost a very close game 3-2 at the Custer field. Dan McElreath pitched extremely well, keeping them in the game. The Portagers had the lead 2-0 until about the 6th inning, when a couple small errors/slips let Leelanau tie up the score 2-2, pushing the game into extra innings. Mike Fredericks had super grabs in the outfield as well as got a home run. Matt had a single. Spectators reported that the Portagers played an outstanding game and they can all hold their heads high as the season for them now closes. They never buckled in the 9 inning game against the number one ranked team in the state. A loss with a score of 3-2 in 9 innings and having the lead 2-0 for 6 is nothing to be ashamed of when you play like the Portager boys did in this Regional playoff game! Good luck wishes go out to the exiting seniors as they now move forward to new adventures in their lives!
