The Onekama Portager Volleyball Team

<--Coach King presents the OHS Volleyball Team. These were the girls that stuck with it, giving Time and Commitment to the end! (Missing from photo is Ginny Carlson.)

The Lady Portagers along with Coach King and all of their parents wrapped up their season with a banquet feast and awards night held at the school on 4-7-04. Plenty of reminiscing about the season and just plain ole' home style visiting was mingled in with lots of good food that was brought by each family member. "Commitment" was what Coach King said he was trying to achieve with the team this year. The team suffered inner struggles throughout the season, but it soon worked itself out. This showed as they began to pull together as a 'team' and began improving on all aspects of the game. "Time" is the best gift you can give someone or something you care about", said Coach King.

Earning MVP this year are Co-MVP Erica Reckow and Co-MVP Stephanie Keith. Their Stats and Awards tonight showed why they earned this prestigious team award.

Erica received a plaque for Best Passer and Total Defense for the season and Stephanie's plaque was for Best at Attack and Most Assists.

Coach King kept these two hopping and called them up yet again! Erica earned the Most Committed award and Stephanie the Setting Excellence (96%) award.

Ashley received a plaque for being the Most Improved for the season while Danielle earned the Most Aces Award.

Stephanie and Erica were called back up to the front again where Stephanie received the Most Hustle and Most Spirited Award and Erica earned Best Server and Most Kills & Stuffs.

Chelsea, Amber and Veronica all earned the Great Attitude Awards! These girls also faithfully and cheerfully took stats through out the season.

Coach King gave JV Coach Keith a bouquet of flowers for everything she does as a coach and for all of her help. Coach Keith coaches many grade levels of volleyball along with JV, as well as assists in stat keeping for the Varsity team. Like most JV Coaches, she graciously gives up her best players during the season as they get pulled up for Varsity play.

Coach King sat a box on the table and asked the team to come up and open it together. Inside, they found a box full of autograph bears wearing VB Jerseys and each one wears a team member's number.

Exiting Seniors this year are left to right, Erica Reckow, Danielle LaRue and Ashley Peterson. They exhibited leadership and dedication to the sport and team and will be missed next year!

Commitment and time certainly pay off in the end as the girls show their rewards/awards proudly.

Coach King presented each girl with an autograph bears wearing VB Jerseys.

It didn't take the girls long to find their number and promises to sign them at school tomorrow rang throughout the final moments of the banquet.
