Regionals
at Frankfort |
Boys Team Records The Onekama Portager boys placed third at the regional meet, and six team members qualified for the upcoming Division IV state meet to be held at Forest Hills Northern High School in Grand Rapids on Saturday, June 5th. Final point totals for the regionals were: Manton, 106 pts, Frankfort, 101 pts. Onekama, 91 pts, Mason County Eastern, 48 pts, Brethren, 46.50 pts, Buckley, 33.00 pts, Mesick, 27 pts, Baldwin, 22 pts, Fife Lake Forest Area, 19.50 pts, North Muskegon, 16 pts, Walkerville, 14 pts, Big Rapids Crossroads Academy, 2 pts, Pentwater & Mansitee Catholic, 0 pts. Okay, heres how it came down. Overcast, damp, rainy then drizzly then not, with absolutely no wind. (The latter was a meteorological phenomenon for Frankfort and indeed, spectators were scratching their heads and checking their road maps to see if they were in the right town, while native Frankforters sold hot dogs at the concessions stand.) The boys pushed themselves hard and recorded ten personal bests. Dustin Thomas won both the long jump and high jump; Nick Swisher set a PR in the 3200, shaving nearly 48 seconds off his time from the previous Monday at Central Lake; milers Luke Allen, Groenwald & Swisher raced to their fastest times this season; Nate Milarch streaked to a seasons best time in the 400; Ryan Brown earned the sophomore class record for his vaulting efforts. But Manton was too big and strong to hurdle. The Portagers and Frankfort Panthers were in a dead heat for second place until Kevin Nerg of FF pulled off an amazing 800 time which put FF ahead. In the final event, our mile relay team was DQd, and the Panthers ended up placing second overall. Good competition, good meet. |
