Boys & Girls Take 1st Place

Boys Team Records:

Both the Onekama Portagers boys and girls track teams took home the first place trophies at the WMD conference track meet this week. 

  1. Onekama, 181 pts,

  3. Mason County Eastern, 124 pts,

  5. Baldwin, 15 pts

  6. Pentwater, 4pts.

It’s the time in the track season to peak and the Portager girls seemed to have timed it just right.  We talked to the girls about individual conference titles versus attempting a team victory and all the girls agreed to sacrifice individual gain for team success.  So we juggled some girls around, and put people in new and different events and it worked!  I am speechless, these girls have gone above and beyond what I thought they would accomplish.  I couldn’t be more proud of all their efforts, they deserve that trophy!

  • High Jump: 1st-  Thomas, 6’0” 3rd – Brown, 5’6”,4th – Pomeroy, 5’5”

  • 110 High Hurdles: 2nd (behind the Hot Hurdler from Brethren, Steve

  • 800 m. Relay: 2nd – Thomas, Dustin Vandervest,  Nate  Milarch, Story 1:41.01

  • 1600m Run: 1st- Allen, 4:43.43  4th - Swisher, 4:59.42   11th – Nick Schmoke, 6:59.7

  • 400m Run: 5th –  Milarch, 55.10

  • 300Hurdles: 2nd – Brown, 43.58,  3rd – Story, 45.76

  • 800 m Run: 1st -Allen, 2:03.60 2nd – Pomeroy, 2:04.36 (tight race!!) 4th – Alex Savory, 2:17.01

  • 3200m Run: 2nd – Josh Groenwald, 10.31.01,  3rd – Swisher, 10:33.05, 6th – Dan Diesing, 11:09.73

  • 1600m Relay – 1st – Allen,Milarch, Brown, Vandervest  3:40.23

Girls Individual Records:

Erica Reckow was a 3-event Conference Champ.  She is the Queen of the Hurdles winning both the 100M highs and the 300M lows in a season’s best time of 52.0.  She’s been trying to break into the 52’s and she finally did it!  She was also a leg on the 1600M Relay team along with Ronnie Maidens, Samantha Mitchell and Elise Ocelnic.  Other First Team All Conference honors went to Stephanie Keith in the Long Jump with a personal best leap of the season 14’10”.  Marlee Herkelrath in the Pole Vault 7’7” and the 3200M Relay team of Alicia Mummey, Marylynn Bradford, Ronnie Maidens and Ashley Zupin.

  • High Jump:  Elise Ocelnic 4’4” 3rd team Honorable Mention

  • Long Jump:  Stephanie Keith 14’10” 1st team All-Conference

  • Discus:  Marylynn Bradford 99’3.5” 2nd team All-Conference

  • 3200M Relay:  Alicia Mummey, Ronnie Maidens, Ashley Zupin, Marylynn Bradford 11:12 1st team All-Conference

  • 100M Hurdles:  Erica Reckow 18.1 1st team All-Conference ; Alicia Mummey 19.9 6th

  • 100M Dash: Stephanie Keith 14.1 3rd team All-Conference ; Marlee Herkelrath 14,3 5th

  • 800M Relay:  Marlee Herkelrath, Amber Carstens, Erica Reckow, Stephanie Keith 2:00 2nd team All-Conference

  • 1600M Run:  Marylynn Bradford 6:03 2nd team All-Conference ; Ronnie Maidens 6:04 3rd team Honorable Mention ; Ashley Zupin 6:30

  • 400M Relay:  Elise Ocelnic, Marlee Herkelrath, Amber Carstens, Stephanie Keith 56.4 3rd team Honorble Mention

  • 400M Dash:  Samantha Mitchell 1:05 2nd team All-Conference

  • 800M Run:  Marylynn Bradford 2:44 2nd team All-Conference ; Samantha Mitchell 2:49 3rd team Honorable Mention
