While their batting averages were announced and are on their team participation certificates, the girls said I didn't need to put them on the site. Not sure why, when we had girls batting 500! That's what I like about these girls though. They want to do better next year and I bet they will! There were a few team members not able to attend tonight so they are missing from the photo.

OHS Softball

Awards were held at the Onekama Park 6-17-04. Broasted chicken and plenty of side dishes were served up buffet style. Laughter, friendship, and chatter mixed with the cool breeze from Portage Lake made for a relaxing , and enjoyable evening.

June 17th, 2004

In the All Conference selections Ashley Dalke and Bonnie Harthun made the 2nd Team and Erika Jach made Honorable Mention. Pictured left to right are: Coach Jim Sigman, Ashley Dalke , Erika Jach, Bonnie Harthun and Coach Kathy Fenstermacher.

Introduced as "the girls that held the team together" , Danielle LaRue, Ashley Dalke and Ashley Peterson accept their Tri-Captain awards. All three were the Seniors on this team and have at times, struggled to keep a team going over the years. Refusing to not have team, they recruited team members and even searched for a coach. They were the back-bone that kept OHS Softball alive.

Danielle LaRue accepts the award for having the most team spirit from Coach Fenstermacher.

Danielle's bobble head most spirited trophy sat there bobbing its head after the awards as if it were acknowledging that yes, the team had a great year! They finished fourth in the conference after a few close losses. They won the first game of the District Playoffs knocking off Freesoil and went on to battle Brethren for the Championship. With a little more fine-tuning they hope to take the title next year. After following the team all season, I believe they can achieve it. While they are losing some great senior players, they have some outstanding underclassmen coming back. Coach Fenstermacher can't wait until next year! With the help of Coach Sigman, the girls learned a better way to bat this year and he is willing to work on pitching as well. OHS softball has turned around for the better and are now making other teams look twice. Until next year, you can catch some of the team members playing summer league ball. Applause!, Applause! team for a great season!

Erika Jach earned the prestigious Coaches Award this year.

Tara Lyman's batting average of 490 earned her the Power House award.

It doesn't matter if they are male or female ...athletes can and will eat! But,how could anyone resist when it all looks sooooo good!

Tara Lyman's mother accepted her thank you gift from Coach Fenstermacher for helping with stats throughout the season.

Mr. Carlson accepted his wife's thank you gift in her absence for also taking stats. She also kept all of us in the dugout fully informed as to score and outs as well as who was up to bat next.

Joleen Dalke earned her Varsity "O" this season.

Amber Johnson also earned her Varsity "O", as well as Sarah Schmoke.

Never, ever, having received a Varsity letter for anything before, the team and Coach Fenstermacher awarded assistant Ilona a Varsity "O" for her help this year. (She is the one taking a photo of me as I am taking a photo of her)!

Amber Johnson received Most Improved. Amber will be most likely taking of the reins of catcher from senior LaRue next year. She did a super job this year in all aspects of the game as well as catcher.

Ashley Peterson received the Utility Player award. Ashley could play any position and was an asset to the team and will be missed next year.

Bonnie Harthun earned the award for Best Offense. Her trophy had not arrived yet, so Kathy made her a necklace with baseball charms on it. Bonnie's trophy will look like the Tri-Captain's award, a softball glove that holds a ball

Both Coaches said this award moment is always the hardest as they know they are also saying goodbye to the seniors. Tears were choked back, hand shakes just wouldn't do as they gave each other hugs. Best wishes to our exiting seniors!

Earning All District were Bonnie Harthun and Ashley Peterson. Earning All District Honorable Mention was Erika Jach.
