Onekama WINS!

The Lady Portagers clean swept a double header against the Freesoil Pirates at the EastLake Field 4-19-04. Score stood 15-5 and 14-11 in favor of OHS when it was all over. Ashley Peterson was the winning pitcher in the first game. She struck out 4 Pirates. Ashley Dalke had 1 RBI and a very nice double. Ginny Carlson had 1 RBI. Tara Lyman had an RBI and a nice triple. In the second game Ginny Carlson started as Pitcher. LaRue got a triple in the 5th inning, bringing the score to 8-6 onekama. Freesoil tied it up in the bottom of the 5th and Stevie Gillespie was brought in as relief pitcher for OHS. Gillespie hit 2 batters in a row with her pitches allowing a runner to come in, putting OHS down by one. In the top of the 6th, Ashley Dalke stole home to tie the score. Missed catches and wild throws allowed Ginny Carlson to also steal home to put the lady portagers up by one. Tara Lyman got a double on a first base error and ran home on a catching error. Score 12-10 OHS. LaRue got a base hit and stole second. Olson walked and LaRue went to 3rd. Olson went to 2nd base with Bromley at bat. Chelsea Bromley hit by a wild pitch takes 1st base and LaRue runs home safe. 13-10 OHS. The girls get one more run and hold Freesoil to just one more run, giving them a clean sweep in the double header.Erika Jach had a double in the 2nd game and scored 1 run. Dalke had 2 runs and an RBI, Carlson got a single, 2 runs and struck out 2. Tara Lyman scored 2 runs and had a single, 1 RBI and a double. Gillespie struck out 1, LaRue scored 3, had 1 triple and a single. Olson had 3 runs and 2 singles.

Another portager run!

Some of Freesoil's players were very short in height, but Ginny was able to adapt to their strike zone quite well.

Danielle LaRue played the Catcher position throughout most of the games. Spectators claim she lets very little get by her and really stops the ball.

Did i mention there was a chill in the air at this game? A bone chilling one? It didn't seem to bother the fans as they came prepared for it and snuggled down for the duration in their warm blankets. I was just about to ask to share a blanket with someone, when Dani Olson reminded me that nothing is as cold as a ski meet! She is right and I bravely stood at the fence line for the rest of the game.

Dalke is up to bat as another Lady Portager on 1st looks for the right moment to run to second base.

Ginny Carlson did an excellent job pitching in the second game.

The girls were on the ready as Ginny pitches to the next batter.

The team breaks away from their huddle. LET'S GO!

Thoughts of "should I go? should i go?" were evident at 3rd base as our girls inched off their bases trying to make it to home base.

What sport isn't complete without a "meeting of the minds" on the mound when things start to get out of control?

<---They then put their hands together in a huddle and yelled a chant to the opposing team congratulating them on a good game. With tonights wins, the Lady Portagers now stand at 2-4 for the season to date!

At the conclusion of the game and after the customary handshakes were done, the team met in a circle on the pitcher's mound for the wrap up.
