OHS Ski Team Gets in Shape!e

On a damp, drizzly cold day, Coach Miller rounded up the ski team to start conditioning and to fill in team members of the upcoming Colorado training clinic. For the members still involved in a fall sport, their conditioning is ongoing, and they were excused from today's round up. This included football players, crosscountry runners, and girls' basketball players. Many who thought they were in pretty good shape, soon felt the burn....including this reporter who knew she wasn't in shape!

The team can not start ski practice on skis officially until about mid November, but once again dryland training is highly encouraged and will incorporate distance running, wind sprints, weight room , and a variety of stretching, balance and agility skills as well as games of soccer .

<--The team makes the 3rd round up those "pesky OHS stairs" . At the bottom of the hill you can see the Varsity football team practicing for the Frankfort game which is coming up this Friday.

Upon arriving at the school, I wondered why Coach Miller had them all sitting along the wall in chairs. Kaylie and Coach Mathieu were making this look so easy and comfortable! Within seconds, the burn set in, and eyebrows were being raised as the team tried to hold this position a little longer.

Kaylie happily gave coach 50 pushups!

Monica (BLHS) works at her crunches.

Danielle (OHS) and Alex (BLHS) go into the squat and once again Coach asks them to hold for the burn..

Alex led the team in jumping jacks for a count of 25.

Kaylie isn't napping. Once they finished running the hill and stairs they did leg lifts. Here Kaylie is holding her legs up after slowly bringing them down to this position. Coach sure knows how to find the burn.

Getting ones center of balance back after growing since last season can be quite challenging. But they continue to work on it, standing on one leg at a time.

The team members ran backwards down the hill, before sprinting along thebottom and then up the stairs. Coach Mathieu stayed right with the team with each round.

Coach Miller let the team cool down a bit and explained the weight room training that they would be doing.

Stephanie (FHS) tries out one of the pieces of equipment in the weight room.

Alex (BLHS) shows the idea behind this piece.

Yes, they even need arm strength for ski team.

Coach Miller comes over and assists Wiley on the proper use of this piece.

Kaylie is spotted by Coach Mathieu as she benches 85lbs. Kaylie can reportedly bench 145 lbs without any trouble.

Once football comes to an end, team member Chris Smith will also help them to use the weight room equipment correctly to get the most benefit out of it they can. GO SKI TEAM!
