Frankfort's Wiley Heller racing for OHS, "packs" it in after tonight's race. Wiley had a super night placing 3rd in Slalom.

Realizing that ski meets ARE colder than your coldest football game, Mike Takes up Kaylie's offer of her race gloves and handwarmers to put in them so he can finish watching the race.

Jackson grabs a juice to drink before the race wrap up.

Stephanie thaws out while she awaits for the meeting about the race results.

After seeing that Chris was serious about not being able to feels his toes, Kaylie had him place a hand warmer on his feet for a few minutes.

To the far right, Monika wipes down her skis as Kaylie hears Chris say, "No, I'm serious, I can't feel my toes. They are numb!"

Stephanie and Eric of Frankfort, check the results one last time after the meeting before they head home and confirm that the next race is the Manistee Invitational on Monday.

People have always asked how the racers stay warm in the GS suits they wear for a race, especially on these bitter cold nights. Kaylie and Jackson show us their secret. Wrapped around their mid section, are 2 different styles of body warmers. They are thin, work like the pocket warmers most are familiar with and keep your core temperature up. Some also use the toe warmers in their ski boots. These along with a couple of thin layers of long johns or t-shirts keep them fairly warm.

These wonderful photographs and great text are provided by Reporter Gwen Smith! Gwen attends the meets to cheer the team on. Then she rushes home to down load her camera, write text, and send the finished work to me by e-mail. Wow! I really appreciate all you do for our Onekama Web, Gwen!

The next race for the team will be the Manistee Invitational at Crystal Mt. on Monday.

Joe Dontz poses with his mother. Joe promised me that he WAS smiling under all that gear! This is Joe's first year racing and while he is learning to master the art of racing, we are training his mother for gate keeping and a variety of things. She has jumped right in with both feet with a smile on her face!

It was just too cold tonight not to have your ski bibs on. Coach Miller holds Chris's coat as he climbs quickly into them after his slalom run. No job is too big or too small for our coaches!

Left to right, Kaylie's Aunt Dawn, your bright orange reporter Gwen and Mike Fredericks. "Mike, look to your right, see how we are dressed?! Now think about what you are wearing...hmmmm..brrrrrr"

Showing true Portager and Laker sportsmanship, Kaylie and Monika dive in and roll up the race fencing after the girls race ended.

Kaylie adjusts the strap under her face guard. She kept saying something about a hair tie and I assumed she was going to fix her hair ....seems she uses it for something on her helmet strap instead...hmmmmm :)

Dani adjusts the buckles on her boots..."ummm, I'd like to help, but I don't have a clue!"

Back over on the Boy's GS course, Chris comes through the finish line in a "tuck".

Monika listens as her father gives me the proper spelling of her name. According to Monika, this reporter isn't the only one that misspells her name. Let's see, it's Monika with a "K" and Higley with one "G"?

Coach Miller skis into the lift line so he can get back to the top of the course. Racers and Coaches get to cut in line during a race.

Senior Mike Fredericks stopped snowboarding to watch the teams race tonight. He was a very loyal OHS fan tonight staying for the duration. Ummm, Where's your coat Mike?
