The race courses were set up on "Buck" for tonights race instead of the usual, "Thor". It could turn out to be anyone's "game" tonight as the racers that may be intimidated by Thor's steeps, feel more at ease on Buck. The racers that are experienced to handle the steeps on Thor may not pay attention to the tricky areas of Buck....and so the story goes....

Conference Race #4 was hosted by Manistee Ski Team and was again held at Crystal Mt. January 28, 2003

Monica hands Erica Jach her coat after Erica finishes her run. You could see Monica racing down Buck ,without ski poles ,carrying the racers' coats all night long, only to head right back to the top to scamper down with some more in her arms.

As the racers finished and came to compare their times at the score board, I kept hearing repeatedly, from all the various conference team members how "bad my run was", "I didn't think it would be so hard", "I don't know what happened", " I caught and edge", pointing with a ski pole, "Man, watch that turn right there!".

Those rosy cheeks on Monica no doubt, are not so much from the cold temperatures, but from all the hard work and effort she puts into being a manager. Monica is in 8th grade at Bear Lake School this year and will hopefully be a racer on the girls team next year. Here she is scampering to attend the race wrap up after the race.
