Cadillac Invitational: Jan.
21, 2003 Last years invitational brought the racers warm , balmy, spring like weather. Almost too warm. Not this year! Bitter temperatures and biting winds kept the racers moving. The weather didn't seem to affect the Portager teams as they did well when you consider they were racing class A through class D schools. The girls 'races had 60 entries and the boys were 66 strong. Girls Giant Slalom: 90 points put the girls in the 5th position for GS with Kaylie Mathieu coming in 8th with her times of 20:46 and 20:07. Erica Jach slid in for 21st with 21:21 and 21:59.Not far behind, Stephanie Griffen took 27th with 21:60 and 21:66. Charlette Kalbach did a super job, coming in 34th with a first run of 22:94 and a second run of 22.69. Freshman Danielle Olson grabbed 43rd with her times of 24:69 and 24:22. Amanda Redder picked up 52nd on her runs of 27:40 and 26:84. Harrison, Clare, Mt. Pleasant, and Cadillac Blue were the only teams suffering DNF's. Girls Slalom: 91 points put the girls in 6th place for slalom and giving them a solid 5th place overall for the day. Erica Jach was the fastest Portager slalom racer for the girls coming in with 27:45 and 28:02 for 13th place. Right behind her, Kaylie Mathieu slides in with 27:60 and 28:32 for 14th place. The 26th place was snatched up by Charlette Kalbach with her times of 29:88 and 30:31. Danielle Olson came in 38th. Her first run came in at 34:42 and her second run even better with 34:36. Amanda Redder grabbed 44th with 36:74 and 36:65. Stephanie Griffen's first run was 27:69 but she missed a gate on her second run giving her a DQ. Boys GS: The boys placed 7th in the Giant Slalom race with 121 points. Christopher Smith proved to be the fastest Portager boy in GS today with his times of 19:41 and skimming some more off for a second run of 19:16 putting him in 15th place. Wiley Heller came down for 32nd with his times of 20:23 and bettering that with 19:60. Jackson Carter slid into the 35th position with 19:96 and 20:53.
