Onekama's Ski Team
Onekama
Ski teams clean swept the race against Bellaire.
Coming back to their home Mtn after a great showing at
the Cadillac Invitational at Caberfae, the adrenaline was
still flowing as both the Girls and Boys teams took 1st
place overall! In Girls GS, Caitlin Brooks made sure that the 1st place was hers with a combined time of :40.71, Julie King of Bellaire was second with her time of :41.27, Erica Jach slid into 4th, Kelli Hoopwood 5th, Kaylie Mathieu 6th, Charlotte Kalbach 8th, Amanda Ridder 10th. Girls Slalom put Kaylie Mathieu in 2nd with a combined time of 1:05.33, Caitlin Brooks right behind her with 1:06.95 for 3rd.The girls weren't done there, going on to take the next critical placings also! Kelli Hopwood 4th, Erica Jach 5th, Charlotte Kalbach 7th, Amanda Redder 8th. Boys GS was set on a very fast course, but it didn't intimidate Ben LaDuke whose first run timed at :19.13. Ben improved that even more on his 2nd run with a time of :18.81 for a combined time of :37.94 taking 2nd place. Jackson Carter placed 3rd, Ben Momber 4th, Chris Smith 6th, Tom Meoak 8th, Alex Harris 9th. Racing as an individual was Travis Berklund with a combined time of :38.88 which would have had him in the 4th spot! Boy's Slalom gave the audience some chills and thrills again , with Ruts that were getting deeper with each racer in the very soft snow. As the race progressed the racers found the course more and more difficult. We witnessed boys being popped up out of the ruts and sent in the direction of the GS course, tossed on the ground like rag dolls , slidding through gates, only to bounce up and finish the course like nothing happened! By race end, the ruts had become hip deep. Placing 3rd was Ben LaDuke, Jackson Carter 4th, Ben Momber 5th, Travis Berklund 6th, Chris Smith 7th after a bounce out of the rut, Alex Harris 9th. Tom Meoak was not allowed to race the course as an individual as the ruts were now getting too dangerous. When I asked him if he was upset, Tom said," It's better this way. It's getting too deep and soft!" |
