Dear Kindergarten Families,

During our shared reading time this week we read 2 stories. The first story we read was I like Pumpkins by Jerry Smath. We made jack-o-lanterns and wrote descriptive words about them. The second story we read was It’s pumpkin time  by Zoe Hall. This story taught us about how a pumpkin grows. We colored the different stages of the life cycle of a pumpkin and glued them in order on a paper plate.

During phonics this week we completed a Pp tongue twister, put some new words on our word wall, illustrated a Zoophonics book and practiced reading the book.

In math this week we continued our unit on shapes. We put together some shape sentence frames, made a special shape robot book, completed a shape sort, and made pattern block shape pictures.

A class list with phone numbers went home this week. Please let me know if you did not receive one and I will be sure to get you a copy.

It was brought to my attention that the letter formation paper I sent home to you is different from the way the children are writing some of their letters. The paper I sent home is the developmentally appropriate order to introduce the letters, but I teach the D’Nealian style. I sent home a copy of the way D’Nealian letters should be written for your reference. I apologize for the confusion.

We are having a crayon crisis in our room. The big box of crayons that I ordered at the beginning of the year is just not going to last. If anyone is willing to donate some crayons I would really appreciate it. If you are unable to donate, but could buy a box just for your child that would help also.

I would like to thank all the parents that helped with donations for our Halloween party as well as those who attended and helped with the kids. It was a fun afternoon! Pictures will go up on our website soon.

            Have a nice weekend!

 Sincerely,

Ms. Lyman

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

1)     Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with Pp?

2)     Can you tell me about the life cycle of a pumpkin?

3)     Can you find any shapes within your Halloween candy?
