Mini-Track Meet
Event Descriptions
1.
Softball Throw (Shot Put) – The shot put is a
field
event involving "putting" (throwing in a pushing motion) a heavy
metal ball—the shot—as far as possible. It is common to use
the term "shot put" to refer to both the shot itself and to the
putting (throwing) action. Today we’ll use a softball as the
“shot.” The longest throw will be marked with a cone.
3. Long
Jump - The long jump is a
field
event in which athletes combine speed, strength, and agility in an
attempt to leap as far as possible from a take off point. The
longest jump will be marked with a cone.

2. 400 M
Relay - The 4 × 100 meters relay or sprint
relay
is an
athletics
track
event run in lanes over one lap of the track with four runners
completing 100 meters each. A relay baton is carried by each runner
and must be passed in the exchange zone (a.k.a. orange cone).
Transferring of the baton in this race is typically blind. The
outgoing runner reaches a straight arm backwards when they enter the
exchange zone and the incoming runner makes a verbal signal. The
outgoing runner does not look backwards, and it is the
responsibility of the incoming runner to thrust the baton into the
outstretched hand, and not let go until the outgoing runner takes
hold of it. The first team to cross the finish line is the winner.
4.
High Jump - The high jump is a field event in which
competitors must jump over a horizontal bar at varying heights.
