ONEKAMA ELEMENTARY HOSTS STUDENT BOOK EXCHANGE

Onekama students browse a large selection of books in the media center during the school’s annual Book Exchange.

On Friday, March 16 in the school Media Center, Onekama Elementary students had the opportunity to fill their arms with books to bring home and cherish, with no return date necessary.

The Book Exchange was part of the school-wide celebration of “March is Reading Month.” Earlier in the month, students were able to bring in gently-used books from home. For each book, they received a ticket to shop at Friday’s Book Exchange.

A total of 308 books were part of the exchange this year, which means that the event succeeded in providing many new reading opportunities for Onekama students.

The students expressed excitement over their new books. “I brought in a good book that I had already read, and now I get to take home this cool book about mermaids!” announced Kindergartener Sarah Johnson.
