Dear First Grade Families,

This week during Daily 5 we learned and practiced Listen to reading. Our basal story was My Five Senses by Margaret Miller. We made a book about the senses, played some games, added words to our word wall, and made applesauce.

In math this week we completed our unit one checking progress. After our first few tests I make copies of each child’s test. Then we go over the test and they are allowed to fix their mistakes. I grade the copy. Your child’s graded tests came home today. Please practice any concepts from the test that were difficult for your child. I have also included a letter about unit 2. Please read the information so you are aware of the things your child will be learning next.

I would like to start homework soon. Please bring in a two-pocket folder with your child’s name written on it for their homework.

Thank-you for all the donations from my wishlist. I am still in need of 25 two-pocket folders (in addition to 1 per child for homework), a small pumpkin, and pumpkin seeds.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

1)     Can you use the following words in a sentence? Baby, have, my, our, see, we, with. Can you body spell them?

2)     Can you tell me one way you can stay healthy?

3)     Can you count by 2’s to 30?

Our scarecrow is ready to go out on the town! J Thank-you for all the help with decorating! I also entered our class into the pumpkin decorating contest. I think I can get 3 pumpkins, but I am stuck with how to help the kids decorate them. If you have an idea I would appreciate the input. Our decorated pumpkins will be on display at the Onekama fall festival. The winning class receives a pizza party!

I wish you all a good weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lyman
