Dear
First Grade Families,
We have continued practicing The
Daily 5 reading program. This week students learned and practiced the
work on writing process. They learned how to underline unknown words so
they can go back and fix it during a writing conference.
During shared reading they
learned to read When this box Is full by Patricia Lillie. They
made a picture of all four seasons, drew their favorite season, added
words to the word wall, and made a graph of our favorite seasons.
During math this week we learned about unit boxes, calculators, and
analogue clocks. We learned and practiced how to tell time to the hour
on an analogue clock. We also learned how to complete math box pages in
our journals.
Yesterday was our first trip to the Onekama Public Library. Your child’s
books should be returned by Thursday, October 27th. They can
be returned to the library or to our classroom.

Thank-you for your help with the scarecrow. She is now in her spot at
the bottom of the school driveway so be sure to check her out. Our class
will also have decorated pumpkins at the fall festival this Saturday. If
our pumpkins win the kids will get a pizza party!
Beginning this week Monday, October 10th I will begin
assigning daily homework. Homework will be assigned every Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please read the enclosed homework
expectations for more detail.
I
have included a book order this week. If you are interested in ordering
new books for your child please fill-out the order form and send it in
with a check made out to Scholastic. This book order is due next week
Friday, October 14th.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman

following:
Can you use the
following words in a sentence? Will, you, is, it. Can you
body spell one of them?
Can you count to 110
by 5’s?
Can you tell me about
the four seasons and the type of weather we have during each
