Dear First Grade Families,

Our Daily 5 reading program continues to go well for all of us. I have finished testing to determine reading levels. This week I worked on getting different books into their book boxes for them. Next week I am going to have to use the Daily 5 time to test individual students for report cards.

Students completed their second math test this week. Graded tests came home today. A letter about Unit three came home today too. We practiced patterning and we learned about even and odd numbers.

We welcomed a new student into our classroom this week! Welcome to our class, Estaban!

During shared reading time this week we learned to read Pumpkin, Pumpkin by Jeanne Titherington. We completed a story map and we made a book about how a pumpkin grows.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  • Can you draw a pattern and label it?

  • Can you tell me an even number?

  • Can you tell me an uneven number?

  • Can you tell me a word ending with -ing?

We walked to the Public library yesterday. If your child brought home new books they will be due on Thursday, Nov. 17th. In addition to checking out books we made a candy corn craft during our visit.

We are going to have a fun-filled Halloween day! In the morning we will be walking to the Onekama Fire Department to learn about fire safety. We will be leaving school by 8:30. Anyone is welcome to join us! At 12:00 we will have a pizza party to celebrate our pumpkins winning first prize. After our pizza we will play some Halloween games.

Picture retake day has been scheduled for the morning of November 4th. If you are not satisfied with your child’s pictures they can be taken again on that day.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman
