Dear
First Grade Families,
We continue to work hard on
building stamina during our Daily 5 reading program. Students met their
goal this week of 13 minutes. I have finished working one-on-one with
children to test math targets for report cards. Next week I will begin
meeting with them one-on-one to discuss their reading goals.
During shared reading time this week we
learned to read Citybook by Shelley Rotner and Ken Kreisler. We
drew pictures of a city. We wrote about what we do in our city,
Manistee, and compared Manistee to New York. We added words to our word
wall, and we made a class book about Manistee.
During math this week we
practiced adding and subtracting on the number line. We learned to
record and solve number sentences. We learned and practiced telling time
to the half hour. We learned about the frames and arrows routine to help
us practice addition and subtraction, and we learned how to count using
calculators.
Please be sure to turn in
your public library books by next week Thursday, November 17th.
Next week your child will be
involved in a special project to learn about family Thanksgiving
traditions. All of the information about the project as well as a
grading rubric came home to you today. If you have any questions please
feel free to ask. For homework next week your child will be asked to
complete each piece of the project and on Friday they will share their
information with our class.
