Onekama's Fourth Graders Visit White Pine Village
Visiting White Pine Village

At White Pine Village I saw two saw mills. First we went to the north saw mill. I had to solve a mystery. The mystery was how many pancakes did they cook at the same time? The answer is 3. Then we went to the south saw mill. They showed us how to make a house. I really liked White Pine Village.

The day I went was October 6, 2011. The chaperone I went with was Mr. McCarthy. The people in my group were Colleen, Hanna, Emma and I.  When were were at White Pine Village for a while we went to the school house. We got to sit at a desk and we had chalk boards at our desk with chalk and a rag. The chalk used to be called lede and their parents had to pay for it. So in school they could not draw on their chalk boards. When they were asked to do a problem they needed to get it right or they would get punished with something that would hurt. On the flag there were 44 stars. Then another thing is we saw a man making apple juice. He made it by putting apples in a bucket and smushing them. After they were smushed the apple cider came out.

Hi I'm Emma. My class is on a field trip.  It is just 4th grade. On October 6, 2011 I went to White Pine Village.  It is located on the coast of Lake Michigan. We went to Ludington Michigan. When I got there my class split up in groups. I went with Hanna, Colleen, and Ella. We had a list with questions on it. I can remember so I will tell you five. We went to the hardware store, the doctor's office, and the post office.. After that we went to the old house. It had a prison and a court house upstairs. We didn't get to see it. About two hours later it was time to go. We took one class picture then it was time to go. I will never forget White Pine village.

We went to White Pine Village on October 6, 2011. There was a guy making apple cider. First you crush the apples into this pulp stuff. Then you squeeze the cider out of the apples. That is how they used to make apple cider. There was also a hay ride. It took us all around White Pine Village. I thought it was fun. I wish we could go again.

All of us fourth graders went to White Pine Village for a class field trip. Nick, Aaron and I plus my mom were in my group. We all went to a few stations like apple cider, logging camp and school house. The school house was my favorite because the teacher did math problems and math is my favorite subject. I liked to see apple cider get made because I got a free sample. The logging camp was cool because we got taught how to stack wood right and haul it. But I don't think I want to do it next time because it was a really long trip.

At White Pine Village there was a lumber industry. There was a building that had a toy train in a case with trees cut up. White Pine Village is in Ludington. In the doctor's office there was X-rays and the X-rays showed a penny and a toothbrush. That's what the picture showed. There was a nice store that the clown band owned. At the post office there were scales that weighed how heavy it was.

October 12th I went to White Pine Village. When we got there it was sunny. I got to go in pretty much all of the houses. I liked going in the school house. We went to get ice cream. It was good. The best part was when we went to the baseball field. We didn't play baseball but instead we played football. There were kids playing baseball. We tossed the football back and forth. I liked going to White Pine Village.

I'm writing about White Pine Village . I went there October 6, 2011 with my class. I was traveling with two chaperones, my Mom (Mrs. Bennett) and Mrs. Mauntler. The kids I traveled with were Luke, Caden, Hayden, Jose, Justin, Sydnee, Chloe and me (Taylor B.) We got a pine piece of paper that had questions for every place there. My favorite place was the school house. I liked it because it was different than our schools today. The desks were different and the discipline was different. Like if you got in trouble you would get smacked in the face or spanked by a belt. Also if you got a question wrong you had to sit on a stool, stare at the wall and wear a hat that said dunce (which means stupid) on it. Also we made apple cider and molasses. I thought it was really cool. I hope I can visit White Pine Village again soon.

When I went to White Pine Village my group was my mom and my 2BFF Kylie and Griselda. We saw a court house that was also a jail house too. It belonged to a cop and his family. they had to live upstairs and the prisoners lived in the basement. They had to sleep on hay. We also saw a school house. Then we had a bigger group. It was me, Kylie, Griselda, Ien, Austin, Allie and our two chaperones, my Mom and Ien's mom. Anyway the school house had old fashioned desks and they didn't have any paper so they had to use slate chalkboards instead . It was fun. Then we went to my favorite store, the General Store. I had candy. I hope I can go again.

When we got there my chaperone was Keira's mom. My group was Keira and Kylie.  The first thing we did was to go to the  bathroom. Then we went to the farm. The second thing we did was to go to the school house. There were desks, dunce cap, slate chalkboard, discipline. Then we ate lunch and ice cream and we saw how to make juice of the the apple cider and to make doughnuts. When we were done we went to the store to buy some things for us to play together and have fun. And we went to the store of candy and found some people from our own class. The best part was the store because I can buy stuff and I can give it to my sister.
