Behavior expectation or rule to be taught: Be Safe

Location for expectation:  Cafeteria

Rationale- It is important to be safe with your peers and adults in school.  The cafeteria is a busy area.  Being unsafe could lead to someone getting hurt.

Note: Remind students to use Bathroom B – new bathrooms by new gymnasium and to sit on bottom in the chairs.

Provide examples to help students better understand what is and what is not the expected behavior:

Examples of expected behavior. Choose examples of that best “fits” the general case of what the behavior expectation

 

Non examples of expected behavior that are:

·     More similar to examples of expected behavior rather than outrageous non-examples

·     Typical of what students do when they are not engaged in the expected behavior
 

 

Joey pushed Ned when he tried to cut in the lunch line.  Ned called Joey a name.  Joey realized he was wrong and apologized.  He also decided to go to the back of the line.

 Sally wanted to sit at a table that was already full.  She tried to squeeze in but decided to ask her friends if they would move with her to another table.

Danny ran to get into the lunch line first.  He put his foot out and tripped Sami.  Sami fell on the floor.  Danny realized he hurt Sami.  He apologized and helped her up

 

Joey pushed Ned when he tried to cut in the lunch line.  Ned called Joey names and Joey pushed him back.  Both boys were sent to the back of the line.

 Sally wanted to sit at a table that was already full.  When she tried to squeeze in she knocked over her friends’ milk.  Her friend threw food back at Sally.  Both girls had to stay after lunch and clean the cafeteria.

Danny ran to get in the lunch line so he could be first.  He put his foot out and tripped Sami.  She fell on the floor.  She kicked Danny and called him names.  Both Danny and Sami became known as bullies. 

Provide opportunities to practice and build fluency:

Students will split into “classroom” groups.  Each group will be asked to line up the “right way” as demonstrated by a small group of teachers.

Acknowledge expected behavior:

After practice session, teachers will offer verbal praise to students who demonstrate the expected behavior.  They will receive…
