Mrs. Lyman's Newsletter

Dear First Grade Families,

Welcome to a new school year! First grade is an exciting year full of many new things for your child to learn and master. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with you and your child.

We had busy first week learning the schedule, routines, and procedures of the classroom, completing some activities to get to know one another, as well as working on a few special projects.

We eat one snack per day in first grade. Our snack time is after our last recess from 1:45 until 2:00. Please provide your child with a healthy snack each day. Try to stay away from sweet treats and give them things like fruit, yogurt, or cheese.

The white folder you received today will come home every Friday and it will contain a newsletter letting you know what we did that week, your child’s work, and any other important information you need to know. Please return the folder to me every Monday

Along with this newsletter you received a permission slip, an orange library card, our enrichment schedule, My Child As A Learner survey, my classroom discipline plan, a student of the week schedule, and some other items from the Student Services Office. Please look everything over carefully, fill-out any needed paperwork, and return it to me as soon as possible.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I can be reached here at school at 889-5521 or by e-mail at klyman@manistee.org. If you have internet access during the day and have an e-mail address I would like to have your address. E-mail is the quickest and easiest way to communicate with me during the day.

I would like to apologize for leaving my camera at home the first couple days. I did however get some pictures of Thursday and Friday. Be sure to check out our webpage throughout the year to see your first grader hard at work.

Every week I will provide questions for you to ask your child about the things they learned during the week. Please ask your child the questions each week so you can learn more about what we are doing and how your child is interpreting/learning our first grade content.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

  1. Can you name 3 types of books that Moonbear likes in the story Moonbear’s Books?
  2. Can you name 3 stations in our classroom and explain what you can do at each station?
  3. What do you like best about first grade so far?

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Your first grader may need a couple naps! I’m sure they are all tuckered out!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lyman
