Dear
Kindergarten and First Grade Families,
I would like to begin by welcoming all the kindergarten families! I’m so
happy your children can be a part of our classroom. We had a very nice
week together. The children have hardly missed a beat. They are all
adjusting well. I have some items in kindergarten folders that need to
be filled out and brought back to school for me. If you are a parent of
a kindergartener and would like to volunteer in our classroom please let
me know.
In shared reading this week the first graders learned to read the story
Citybook by Shelley Rotner and Ken Kreisler. We learned all about
cities and students made their own city pictures. The kindergarteners
learned and practiced sounds for the letters e, g, and i.
In math this week the first graders learned about even and odd numbers,
explored dominoes, shapes and patterns, and practiced counting hops on a
number line. The kindergarteners completed a shape book, and practiced
writing the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5.
A book order came home today. I will not send another order form home
until Jan. so if you are thinking Christmas gifts this will be the time
to order. Please turn in your order by next week Thursday, Nov. 18th.
I included an enrichment schedule for kindergarten parents. Mrs.
Hrachovina has designated Tuesday as our day to check out books.
I would like to walk to the public library next week. Kindergarten
parents please send back the orange card you received today. If your
child has a library card please send that in.

First grade parents you received information and a grading rubric for
our Thanksgiving traditions project today. This project begins on
Monday. Your child will work on this project for homework. If you have
any questions please let me know. I included the rubric so you know how
your child will be graded.
First grade conferences will be held on Monday, Nov. 22 from 3:15-5, or
Tuesday, Nov. 23 from 5-8, or Wednesday, Nov. 24 from 8-11. Please call
Mary Bergren in the office to schedule a time to talk with me about your
child’s report card. Mr. K will be talking to Kindergarten parents. If
you are a Kinderten parent you will also need to schedule a time for
your child’s conference.
Mrs. McCarthy finished reading Freddie Fornator, Fearless First
Grader by Jonathon Rand to us this week. This was such a treat! The
kids really enjoyed it. See if they can tell you about the word suspense
and what it means.
