Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,
This week during shared reading the first graders
learned to read Eek! There’s a mouse in the house! by Wong Herbert Yee.
They wrote about their favorite animal from the story, and learned many
new words. They learned about words ending in -ed and they learned about
naming words. Kindergarteners learned the rhyme Humpty Dumpty. They
learned some rhyming words and played a rhyming word game .
In math this week the first graders practiced writing
number models and solving number stories. They completed a dice roll
tally to determine which sums show up the most. We talked about the many
combinations of numbers that go together to make the same sum. The
kindergarteners made a March calendar. They also learned about all the
patterns on the number grid and played some number grid games.
You received a form in your child’s folder. It is in
regards to our books we will be making online. You MUST sign the form
and return it to me Monday (3-7-11) in order for your child to have a
book for Young Author’s Night. This form will be used so that your
child receives their 1 free book. Later if you would like to order more
copies of your child’s book I will have instructions for how you can do
that.
Your child’s animal research project is due Monday
(3-7-11). Please be sure your child brings their written report as well
as a model of their animal. It will be very important for your child to
be at school on time next week. We are going to the computer lab at 8:00
each day to work on our books. Your child will get help typing their
book from a high school student.
