Dear
Kindergarten and First Grade Families,
Happy New
Year! I hope you all had a fun, but relaxing holiday season with your
families. It is hard to believe that almost half of our school year is
over.
Kindergarten
is just about done with their alphabet study. They will be working on Yy
and Zz next week. First grade completed their 90 word spelling test this
week. Next week they will have 6 spelling words to study. First grade
spelling tests will be on Thursdays.
Next week the
first graders will take their second theme test. The theme tests help
determine your child’s growth in the areas of reading comprehension,
phonics and decoding, and writing.
First grade
completed their measurement unit this week when they got the opportunity
to measure with a tape measure. They measured each other’s wrists,
elbows, heads, hand spans ,and ankles. The kindergarteners made a
January calendar and learned all about the calculator.
I have
included a Jan. wish list. Please look it over and if you are willing to
donate any of the items please send them in with your child.
I have also
included a book order. Please look it over and if there are any books
you would like for your child please turn in your order with a check by
Monday, Jan. 17th. |
The Onekama
public library books are due on Monday. Please be sure you turn them in
by then. Our next visit will be next week Friday, Jan. 14th
(weather permitting). I need a volunteer that would be willing to walk
with us to and from the library. If you are available Friday from 12:00
until about 1:30 I would appreciate the help.
Questions to
ask your child this week are the following:
Kindergarten
1) Can you
tell me something that begins with Ww? Something that begins with Xx?
2)
Can you tell me about The Mitten by Jan Brett?
First Grade
1)
What tool would you use to measure the length of your pencil?
What tool would you use to measure the distance around your waist?
2)
Can you count backwards from 110 down to 50?
Have a good
weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman |
