Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,

This week during shared reading the first graders learned to read Flower Garden by Eve Bunting. Kindergarteners learned the rhyme Cackle, Cackle, Mother Goose.

In math this week the Kindergarteners used calculators to count by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s. The first graders practiced using greater than and less than symbols. We all learned about symmetry.

Our Valentine’s Day party will be on Monday, February 14th. It will only be for the last hour of the day. When the kids come back from gym at 2:00 we will have our snack, and play some games. I will have them pass out valentine’s before we go to gym. When the kindergarteners were in Mr. K’s class some parents signed up to help. From that list I have Jay & Deanna Osga helping in the classroom, Katie Revolt bringing plates and cups, Mrs. Corey bringing milk, Mrs. Niederstadt bringing rice krispie treats, and Mrs. Petrosky bringing in a snack. Mrs. McIsaac will be bringing in one more healthy snack for us.

On Monday, February 14th we will be celebrating our 100th day of school. If you purchased a 100th day t-shirt please have your child wear it to school that day. As a special homework project have your child find and collect 100 small items from your home. Examples could be (but are not limited to) beads, buttons, cheerios, or pennies. Please use the enclosed Ziplock bag to store your child’s items. Your child can bring them to school any day before the 14th.

We will be going to Good Behavior Ski Day on Wednesday, February 16th. Please make sure your child has their own lunch on that day. If they need a field trip lunch from the cafeteria before we go please fill-out the form inside this week’s folder and return it to me as soon as possible.

Our mid-winter break will begin Friday, Feb. 18th and go through Monday, Feb. 21st. There will be no school on the 18th or 21st.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lyman
