Dear
Kindergarten and First Grade Families,
This week during our shared reading time the first graders learned to
read Tug of War by Veronica Freeman Ellis. They learned about
ay, ai, ea, oa, and ow words and did a word hunt. They were introduced
to using a graphic organizer to help them write paragraphs. They acted
out Tug of War. The Kindergarteners learned to read a poem about
birds. They drew a picture of when they candled the chick eggs. We get
the opportunity to be a part of the chick hatching event that will be
taking place in Mr. K’s room. We will be doing some activities together
to follow the development of the chicks. They also made a book about
birds this week and read it to me.
In
math this week the kindergarteners played a shape attribute game and a
number grid game, practiced telling time to the half hour, and counted
on calculators. First graders learned about equivalent names, completed
name collection box activities, and we all played store to continue
practice with counting coin amounts. I have been skipping around the
first grade math curriculum a bit to accommodate for whole class
lessons. First graders completed their unit 7 checking progress. Graded
tests came home today. Currently we are working on some concepts in unit
6. You should have the letter containing information about the unit. If
you have any questions please let me know. |
Thank-you for all the science
station donations. The kids enjoyed visiting that station this week. We
will continue the station for at least another week.
Next week Friday is a teacher
in-service day. There will be no school for students next week Friday,
April 29th.
Questions to ask your child this week are the following:
Can you solve the following word
problems? 1) I had 10 erasers. I gave 6 away to students. How many
erasers do I have left? 2) I picked 4 flowers. My friend gave me 3 more.
How many flowers do I have now?
I
would like to wish all of you a happy Easter. Enjoy the weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman
