Planting Sunshine

On a sunny and warm Wednesday in November, Onekama Elementary School students worked together to keep their school grounds beautiful. Onekama kindergarten, first, and fourth grade students were given the fun task of planting flower bulbs along the school playground and parking lot.

The students demonstrated high spirits, teamwork, and patience, as their teachers explained to them that they would not see the fruits of their labor until the flowers bloom in early Spring.

They also took ownership of the project. “It’s our school, so it’s our job to keep it looking nice,” said first grade student Madisen Clouse. “When the flowers come up and I walk into my school, I’ll get to see them every day.”

When the snow passes and the flowers do bloom, these students will no doubt remember the beautiful fall day and the spirit of cooperation that made this all possible.
