The Leader Dog Presentation

I liked the leader dog presentation because we learned things about them. A leader dog is a dog that helps people with disabilities. They can help people find the door to get out of the house. If there is ice the dog will bark to tell him. It takes 6 months of training before the dog is a leader dog. Then the dog goes and helps someone. He can sniff danger. He will bark in a special way if there is a fire.

Thank you Leader Dogs

It was March 23, 2011. I was riding to Onekama School and it was snowing. Oh, and my name is Ranger. I am a Leader Dog. My Owner is Tom.  Tom and I are giving a damanstshoin to OCS. We got there and I lead Tom in. When all the kids came in Betty said lets get started. I was excited by i knew I was on dotey . First Betty said Leader dogs have to go through 6 months of training. Then they go to a nice home for a year. After that they have to go through 6 more months of training. Then they did some demonstrashoins. I learned you have to ask the owner if you can pet the dog. If he says yes you can you can. I want to thank all the Leader Dogs for helping people. And I am not just saying that because I am one.

I like the leaderdog presentation because you don't see a dog in school every day. The dog's name is Ranger. He is very nice. But the lady said, "That he was working and that we could not bother him." Tom was a blind man and it happened when he turned 30. It would be like putting on glasses that had oil and grease on them. Tom was very nice. There was on dog that could pick up stuff that none of the other dogs could. There are three stages to being a leaderdog. First take your dog everywhere. Then take him to training. Then he's a leaderdog.

I liked the leader dog presentation because I think it was a really good presentation. That was a really nice thing for them to com in and show how much effort they put into this. Tom and Ranger came in to show what Ranger knows. One think gat Ranger and Tom did together was Tom said, Ranger lead me to the door. So Ranger did. When we were done we went back to the classroom.

Today I am going to tell you about Leaderdogs. I learned today about Leaderdogs. I learned today how to be safe. I learned to stop and go. Different Leaderdogs are the same. Leaderdogs help people help people that are blind. Leaderdogs are cool. Leaderdogs can help people in a fire.

I liked the leader dog presentation because I think its cool how much stuff the dogs can do like showing blind people where to go and alerting them when there's an emergency. Dogs are amazing animals!

In the presentation I learned that leader dogs take 6 months of training. I think it's cool.

Sometimes there are signs on the dogs that say: Don't Pet Me I'm working! That tells you it's a working leader dog.

Today we went to the library and they talked about leader dogs with us. They also had a dog with them. He was named Ranger. He is Tom's leaderdog. They flew here all the way from South Dakota! Ranger has to show Tom where the door is and if there are any people and a lot more. I think it is really sad being blind. You can't see your family. You can't see very pretty sites. It's just misrable. Tom looked like a really nice man and he also let us pet the dog. It was really nice.

My favorite part was the dog took the man to the door. There are different kinds of leader dogs but I do not know any. They have a speshiel leash. They have a sign on their back that says do not pet-working. They help people that can't see to get across ice. They do 6 months of training and 1 year with the owner. They eat plain dog food.

Today I heard about Ranger. Ranger can help blind people. He can do it by guiding. He can walk people to a safe spot. After a year they train for 6 months. Not all dogs can be a leader dogs. Dogs bark because something bad is going on. Dogs can be a guard.

Training Lead Dogs

Today at school 2 people came with a dog. One of the people was blind, his name is Tom. Tom's dog's name is Ranger. Ranger is called a Leader Dog because he can help Tom.

Tom got Ranger when the dog was only 2 years old. Tom had Ranger for 8 years now. If you do the math that equles 10.

I thought that was really cool because you don't always see a dog like that. Sure I have seen one and heard of one but I got to learn a little bit about how they can become a dog like that. I learned that at 6 weeks the dog goes to a family that will train it. 1 year later the dog goes to another school to see if it is good or still to silly. It the dog is to silly you would not like a dog to be walking you down the street real silly. If the dog is to silly there is another job the dog can take. The job is to make people that are in the hospital or lonely people happy again.

On March 23, 2011 a leader dog (Ranger) and his leader (Tom) came to our school. Leader Dogs are use for helping people who have disabilities. Each dog has to go through 6 months of training. When the dogs are working they have a sign that says "Do not touch working." It also has a harness on. Leader dogs have to be serious at all times. If they are not they could lead the leader the wrong way. That is what I learned about Leader Dogs.

Hi my name is Madeline C. and I was at the leader dog presentation. Today I heard some stuff about leader dogs. This is what I heard. Leader dogs help people that need help to go places. I learned some stuff like you should not put a dog in a tiny room for a year or your dog will not want anything to do with you. The whole elementary was there. It was fun. The man that had Ranger was Tom. He was blind too.

Ranger the Leaderdog

Hi my name is Ranger. I visited Onekama Consolidated Schools today. They put harnesses on the dog. The dog helps Tom see where he's going and the dog listens to what Tom says.

Today we went to the library and they talked about dogs with us. The dog was named Ranger and the dog's leader was Tom. They flew from South Dakota to Onekama. Tom is blind and Ranger walked to the door to test Ranger and he passed the test. When I was sitting my little sister saw me and I had to go by her. Then Tom was talking about that Ranger had to take 6 months of training. Tom talked about that Ranger had to wear a sign that said do not pet I am working. At the end Tom let the people pet Ranger.

I thought the presentation was good. I liked it because I like dogs. The person who was blind was named Tom. His partner's name was Ranger. Ranger fell asleep in the middle of the presentation. I also learned that there's more than one kind of leaderdog. One kind is for blind people. Ranger helps blind people. The second kind is a cop dog. Cop dogs sniff people out. There are also hospital dogs. When people are sick and board dogs come in and play with them. That's what I learned.

The dog that was there today was a german shepard. The dog was a leader dog and his name was Ranger. The man that was there was named Tom. He was a blind person. He was from South Dakota. The dog will warn the blind people so they do not slip on ice. The dogs can be sent to different places. Some dogs are scared of stuff.

Today I went to the leader dog program and there was a dog named Ranger. He was a german shepard and there was even a blind person. The dog would help him find his way to the door so that is why they always have a dog to help.
