Junior Achievement
for Onekama's
Fourth Grade
Students

April 2011

We are starting a unit in school called Junior Achievements. A lady named Mrs. Punches was teaching us. (It's April 18th, 2011.) Today we made a business We had 5 locations. They were Onekama, Mount Pleasant, Traverse City, Toledo, and Santa Cruz. We sold popcorn, ice cream, and slushies. I got to be an owner with D'Angelo. Brendan was our Santa Cruz manager. It was fun. Junior Achievements is about economics. We learned there are 3 types of businesses: a sole proprietorship, a partnership, and a corporation. Our business today was a corporation. A corporation is a business that is owned by people called stockholders. Stockholders are people who put money into the business so they can expand. A partnership is a business owned by two or more people. A sole proprietorship is where there is only one person in the entire business. The only person gets to keep all the money and make all the decisions. I learned a lot in one day. ~Benjamin J.

Today Mrs. Punches came to our class to teach us about the Junior Achievement. We pretended to open a popcorn store. Then we had to hire people and then we opened a ice cream shop. Then the popcorn and ice cream shop combined. Then they decided to put slushies in the stores also. Then they opened four more stores I was a truck driver and then I was the owner of one store. ~Brendan C.

April 4, 2011 Mrs. Punch came in and she talked about Junior Achievement. We learned how to sort of run a business. We made a slushy shop, a ice cream shop, and a popcorn shop. It was pretty fun. I was a business manager. I liked it. There were two bosses and three cashiers and two business managers and all the other stuff. I learned quite a bit. ~Ben A.

Mrs. Punches came to the fourth grade to talk about business. She made a popcorn stand and picked people to work there. I was an assistant of the main manager. I even got my own nametag. When I grow up I will be a farmer with my own market. ~Jarrett B.
