The kinkajou lives in the rain forest of central and south
America, where they spent most of there time in tree’s. They
are able to tern their feet backwards to run easily in
either direction among branches or up and down trunks. The
Kinkajou also they have really good gripper feet. Kinkajou’s
often hang from this incredible tail which also helpe’s
their balance. It is also used as a blanket while the animal
sleeps high in a canopy. Though many of it’s features sound
like those of a primate to the kinkajou’s are somthime

Jaguars
Emilee
A
jaguar gets it’s name from the Native American word yaguar.
Yaguar means “he who kills with one leap.” Another name for
jaguar is leopard. Jaguars come from South America. They
live in dense rain forests where it is humid and damp.
A jaguar grows to be five to six feet long, two feet
high at the shoulder and can weigh up to 250 pounds. Jaguars
are thick and bulky with short and strong legs. They are not
made for speed. They can have very short bursts of speed up
to 30 miles per hour. Jaguars spots are open with smaller
spots in the middle.
A
jaguar is a carnivore. They climb trees to stalk their prey.
They wait till they can pounce and then leap killing them
with one bite. It eats snakes, foxes, rats, badgers,
monkeys, birds, fish, llamas, and goats. They also eat
larger animals such as deer, capybara, peccaries, and
tapirs. Jaguars are excellent swimmers, it allows them to
catch fish easily.

Jaguar's are one of are many
mammals on the planet. Most Jaguars live in Africa, but not
all of them. They are carnivores and eat animals like fish,
turtles, deer, snake, eggs, frogs, and caimans. Caimans are
small Alligator like animals. Thier life span in the wild is
up to 15 to 20 years. They are 6 to five feet long. Jaguars
weigh 100 to 250 pounds. They are the largest South America
big cats. Jaguars are big beautiful and powerful beasts in
ancient Native American culture. Jaguars also don't avoid
water like most other cat species. They are also great
swimmers. Tan and Orange with black spots is the Jaguars
main colors. Jaguars are almost as strong as lions. Jaguars
also live by themselves, but sometimes they live with
another jaguar, and the strongest jaguar is in charge of the
pack. The female jaguars have litters of one to four cubs.
Jaguars are part of the cat family. Jaguars climb trees so
they can ambush prey. They have have powerful jaws to.
Jaguars usually onlt attack humans, and it is usually the
humans that are intimidating them. Jaguars are very fast
runners they can eun up to 45 miles. They are hunted for
thier fur, or farmers hunt them because they killed thier
animals. They are usually killed for thier fur. jaguars are
very intellagent animals. Jaguars are active both night and
day. There are very few jaguars left on are planet so we
need to do whatever it takes to keep them alive.
Macaws
By.HOBI
Macaws are a unique bird. Large and often colorful. Their
colors vary from bright tropical colors to darker forest
colors. They are a part of the parrot family. They are native
to Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Carribean.
They prefer to live in
rain forests, and woodlands, and savannahs. Some Macaws are
known for their
great size. Also some species are known to live from 20 to
50 years old. They
like to live together so they can get away from predators
quickly. They like to
eat fruit but they will eat bugs when they are starving.
They can be pets. You
have to take good care of them though. A lot of bad to the
Macaws and people
who like them. They are very endangered. People are doing
what they can to save this species. The Macaw is a splendid
animal.
Macaw
By James E.
The animal that I have chosen to write about is the Macaw
bird. I think that it is a cool kind of bird that comes in
different bright colors. There are at least 18 species of
this large colored parrots call the Macaw. The male and the
female look alike. They have large dark beaks and light
colored facial patches. The facial feather pattern is like a
fingerprint. The Macaw’s first and fourth toes points
backwards just like other parrots, toucans and woodpeckers.
The picture I drew is of the blue and gold Macaw. The real
name is Ara ararauna. A large number of Macaw are endangered
in the wild. Six of the Macaw species are already exstinked.
The greatest cause of extinction is the illegal bird
trapping. The Macaw diet is made up of fruits, palm fruits,
nut seeds, leaves, flowers, and stems. The Macaw can live to
15-30 years. Their size can reach up to 33 inches tall and
weigh 2-3lbs. The face of the Macaw will turn pink when
excited. Its strong beak is used to crack nutshells and help
climb up trees.
The Macaw bird is a very interesting bird to study. The
colors and the feather patterns of these birds are really
cool.
Squirrel Monkeys
Jared S.
Squirrel
monkeys live in south america and central america in the
rain forests such as Boliva and Costra Rica. Squirrel
monkeys colors are orange, and black and white on their faces
their nick name is deaths head monkey. Squirrel monkeys grow
to about twenty five to thirty three centimeters plus a
thirty five to forty two centemeter tail. A mail weighs
about seven hundred fifty to about 1100 grams. Females weigh
five hundred to seven hundred fifty grams they also have the
largest brain in all of the primates. There tail is not used
for climbing but as a balancing pole and as a tool. In the
branches they move very rapidly. They live in big groups
such as five hundred. Their small body makes it easier for
them to hide. They mark their territory by rubbing their
urane on each other. They make calls to warn preditors are
near them. Their was a monkey named baker that went into
space and returned safely. |
