By Allison

This year Mr. K’s kindergarten class hatched chicks. Destiny is a student in Mr. K’s class. Destiny is a student in Mr. K’s class.

Destiny said that Travis gave the eggs to her class. Destiny thought that a couple were going to be fallers and thought that they were going to be cute. She said the eggs were brown, and white. The first thing they had to do with them was put X’s and O’s on the eggs so they knew witch way to turn the so they stay worm. They had to turn them every day. Destiny said they had to turn them ten times a day. Destiny said that the incubator is something you put the egg in. Then she said that you put worm water in it and the incubator steams the eggs and keeps them worm. She said that kindling was when you put an egg on a cylinder and you turn the lights off and shine a flash light on the egg and you can see the baby chick inside the egg. Destiny said she could only see a shadow and the chick moving around. Then she said that they eat the yock  when they were in the egg.

Destiny said that it only took 21 days for the eggs to hatch. She said she felt that some of them were going to be different and that they were going to fight and not like each other. Destiny said that her favorite part of hatching eggs in her class room was she got to hold them and play with them. She also said that some of her class mates got to take some home but her mom didn't want chickens running around so she didn't get any.

Mr. K’s class had a lot of fun hatching eggs in there room.

Eggs! Eggs! Eggs!

Almost every year the students in Mr. K’s class hatch baby chicks. Destiny is a student in Mr. K’s class.

Destiny said Travis gave the class the eggs. When Destiny first saw the eggs she thought that some wouldn’t like the others and maybe hurt them. Some eggs were white and some eggs were brown. The first thing they had to do with the eggs was put x’s and o’s on each side of the egg. Why do you put x’s and o’s on the eggs? “You put x’s and o’s on the eggs so one side won’t get cold and neither will the other,” said Destiny. Destiny said that they had to turn the eggs ten times every day. You really only turn them two or three times a day. Destiny said that you put water in the incubator to warm it up. They had to candle the eggs a lot. Candling is when you put a light bulb on a box and then put the egg on top of the light bulb and then turn the light on. Destiny could see the shadow of the egg. The baby chick grows in the egg by eating the yolk.

It takes 21 days for the eggs to hatch. Destiny said,“ I felt a little bit that the eggs would be different and some might not like the others and try to hurt them.” After the baby chicks hatch they eat crushed corn seeds.

The part Destiny liked the most about hatching the chicks was when they got to hold them and play with them. Destiny had a great time with the baby chicks.

This year in Mr.K’s class the students hatched chicks. Carly is a student in Mr.K’s class.

This year Mr. Zupin and Sophie brought the eggs in the classroom. When she saw them she was shocked. She thought they were so cute. The eggs were really colorful. Carly said, ”most of the eggs were brown and white though.” The first thing Carly did with the chicks was put x’s and o’s on the eggs. You put x’s and o’s on the eggs so you know when to turn them over. You turn them two times a day. The incubator is hexagon and made of styrafoam, and it keeps the eggs warm. To do candling you have to put the eggs on it and you can see a shadow in the eggs. Carly could see a shadow in the eggs. to keep the chicks growing in the eggs they eat the yolk in the egg.

CHIRP!!! The chicks are here. Carly said,” it takes 21 days for the chicks to hatch. She felt good when the chicks hatched. When they are out they are put into a glass container with no top so they can breathe. Then at then at point they put the water and food in the container. They put coins in the in the food and water so the chicks know where it is. The chicks food is called crushed up yellow.

Carlys favorite part was holding the chicks. Carly had a great time with the chicks.

This year in Mr.K’s kindergarten the students hatched chicks, and Mrs. Lyman’s kindergartner's helped. Mary is in Mrs. Lyman’s class, but they still visit the chicks almost every day.

Mary visited Mr. K’s class everyday to look at the eggs. Mary said the eggs were white and gray. The first thing they did was put them in the incubator. Mary said,” The incubator is a thing that keeps the eggs warm because when they get cold they die.” Candling is when you put a yellow flashlight under a tube so you can see through the egg. Mary liked candling the eggs. Inside the egg Mary saw a little red dot and sometimes a little yellow dot.

Mary also told me about when the eggs hatched. Mary said, “It takes 15 days for the eggs to hatch.” (but really it takes 21) When the eggs hatched Mary was so happy. She told me that the coins in the chicks water and food so they know where to peck. Mary liked that the eggs were hatching the most.

This year Mr.K’s class hatched eggs. Dafene and Madison are students in Mr.K’s class.
Madison said that Mr.Zupin gave the class the eggs. Madison and Dafene both said that the eggs looked cool. The eggs were brown and white. Madison said” The first thing we had to do with the chicks was that we had to put them in an incubator to heat up.” They also had to put X’s and O’s on the eggs. Dafene said” We put X’s and O’s to make sure each side of the egg was heated.” They also had to turn the eggs each day and 3 times a day. The incubator is like a heater to soften each side of the egg so it is easier for the chick to peak out of the egg. Madison said that candling is when you put a light under the egg to see if you can see the chick in the egg. Madison and Dafene both could see a dark shadow in the egg.
It takes 21 days for the eggs to hatch. Dafene and Madison said it was exciting when the eggs hatched. Mr.K put coins in the water and food because the chicks could eat and drink. The chicks eat bird seed that is like pieces of grain.
Dafene said” My favorite part about chicks is that I could hold them.” Madison said,” I liked best was the colors of the eggs.” This was a very fun and educational project that the kindergarten got to do
