Chick or Alien?
By Madison
This year in Mr. K’s class the
kindergarten hatched eggs. Jesse is a student in Mr. K’s class.
The class got their amazing eggs from Mr.
Zupin. Jesse said when he first saw the eggs he thought they were cool,
amazing, like aliens, but not pretty. He also said the eggs were brown
and white. The first thing the Kindergarten did was put the eggs in the
incubator which keeps the eggs warm. Jesse said that they that they had
to write O’s and X’s to know when to flip them over. He also said that
they had to flip them over a lot, about 45 Times! They usually only flip
them over 3 to 4 times a day though. They also had to do candling Jesse
told me. candling is when you put a egg on a cylinder type of thing to
see what’s in the egg. Jesse said he saw a big dot and a little dot too.
He seemed very facinated about the chicks. Chicks also grow inside the
egg. How do they do this you ask? Well, Jesse said they, “ Drunk all the
yoke to make it grow.” That’s amazing how they can do that!
That’s not all what happens. the chick
obviously has to hatch! Jesse said that it takes a really long time. It
usually takes 21 days to hatch. Jesse felt really happy and excited when
they hatched. Chicks also have coins in their water. Many people don’t
know that, but Mr. K’s class does! They put coins in the chicks’ water
so they can see where it is. They also have food in their shelter of
course which is crushed up corn and seed. Jesse also said his favorite
part about the chicks was, “Holding them, they felt tickley. My favorite
one was the white one, the small white one.” Sounds like a lot of fun!
Mr. K’s class had a fun, edacational
expierience. I hope the next Kindergarten class does too!
Egg Hatching

For many years, Mr. K’s class has been
hatching chicks. Jesse is a student in Mr. K’s class.
Jesse said, “Mr. Zupin gave the class the
eggs”. The eggs were cool, amazing and like aliens! They were also soft
but not pretty. Jesse said, “The eggs were brown, and white”. The first
thing they had to do was put them in the incubator, then write and draw
about them. They also had to draw X’s and O’s on the eggs to know which
side to flip them over on. Jesse said, “they had to flip over the eggs
and put water on them”. The incubator warms the chicks. They also did
candling, which is when you put the egg in light and you get to see what
is in the egg. Jesse saw a small black dot and a big black dot. The
chicks grew in the egg from drinking all the yoke from the egg!
Hatching eggs took quite a while,
Jesse said, “It took a very long time”. When the eggs hatched Jesse felt
happy, and excited, one hatched before all the others! The class needed
to put coins in the water so the chicks can see where the water is, but
as the chicks get older they can take the coins out. Jesse said, “They
feed the chicks crumbled things”. Jesse’s favorite part was holding the
baby chicks,t hey tickled his hand! Jesse’s favorite was a white chick.
Hatching chicks is a great
experience for the kindergarten class. Jesse really enjoyed it.
One Little White Egg
By Elizabeth
Every year Mr.K tries to do an egg
project with his Kindergartner's. Connor is one of Mr.K’s young 5’s.
Mr. Zupin brought in the eggs for
the class. Connor was so happy to see the eggs. Only one egg was white
this year. The first thing they did with the eggs was look at then in
the incubator. Mr. Zupin helped the class put water in the incubator so
the eggs get softer and it is easier to peck the egg shell open. The
class turns the eggs four times a day. The incubator keeps the eggs warm
so they don’t die. Candling is a lite bulb in a cylinder type thing to
see inside the shell! Connor says, “ YEAH!, it was like a little shadow
and he was moving, there was a small dot and I think it was an eye!” He
the ate yoke and the red lines in the egg are like straws so they get
the yoke to them.
It took many days for the eggs to
hatch. Connor said, “ I felt happy when I saw the hole in the egg shell,
I saw the chicks beek open the shell, but we didn’t get to see the chicks
hatch because the power went out in the storm.” Mr. Zupin put coins in
the water and food because the chicks see the reflection and so they
know where their food and water is. The baby chicks eat food that is
like pellets. Connor liked the chicks A LOT!
Mr.K’s class likes the project.
It is a educational project too.

eggs were going to hatch any day! The eggs were white and brown. The
first thing the class had to do with the eggs was set them in the
incubator. Then they put X’s and O’s on the eggs so the know which ones
had hatched. Adam flipped the once a day. Adam said “ the incubator
warms the chicks up.” Candiling is were you put the egg on a light and
you see the black dot. The baby chick ate the yolk when it was in the
egg.,
PEEP! PEEP! After about 21 days the chicks started to hatch.
Adam felt so happy when he saw the baby chick crack open the egg. Mr.K
put coins in the chicks food so it will reflect and they will peck at it
and learn to eat. Adam said “ The chicks eat corn, wheat, and rye
crushed together.” Adam looked at the baby chicks everyday in his

This year in Mr. K’s kindergarden
class hatched baby chicks. Sawyer is a student in Mr. K’s class.
Once a year Mr K’s class hatches
baby chicks. Sawyer was one of the students that got to watch the chicks
grow. When Sawyer first saw the eggs he thought they were cool. There
was white and brown eggs. When Sawyers class got the egg the first thing
that they did was put them in an incubator. Then they put X’s and O’s
on them. The reason of that is to keep track of the days. You would have
to turn them over once a day to keep them warm. The incubator would heat
the eggs like a mother hen said Sawyer. Sawyer said candling is when you
get a cereal bowl like thing and then put a flash light under it. Sawyer
saw a little black dot.
Look i see a leg it’s hatching.
Quack! Quack! The chicks are hatching. The wait is over and it only toke
21 days. When Sawyer saw the chicks he was excited because he had never
seen them hatch before and he thought they were cool. Mr K’s class would
put pennies in the water and food so the chicks could see them. Sawyer
said the chicks food is little pebbles. The thing Sawyer liked the most
is holding the chicks.
Sawyer had a lot of fun hatching
the chicks. So did the rest of the class

This is one of the many years Mr.
K’s class has hatched eggs. Nicholas is one student in Mr. K’s class.
Nick said the eggs were given to
them by Ronnie Kosieboski, Chester Gauthier, and the Jeff Wisniski
Family. When the eggs came Nick thought they would look different. The
eggs were white, gray, some a little tan, and some brownish. First the
class had to put X’s and O’s on the eggs. They do this so they know when
to flip them over. Nick said “ The incubator kept the eggs nice and
HOT!” He said when he candled he could see a moving shadow in the eggs.
The baby chick grew in the egg and got bigger and bigger until they
hatched was Nick’s thoughts.
Cheep! Cheep! After about 21 days
the eggs finally hatched! Nick was really happy to see the baby chicks.
He said “ I don’t know why we put coins in the food and water . I wasn’t
there to see .” Nick also said the chicks eat chicky food. His favorite
thing about the eggs was hatching them and watching them grow up.
Nick had a great time hatching
eggs. Along with the rest of his class.

Mr.K’s
Kindergarten class raised and hatched baby chicks this year! Sheryl is a
student in Mrs.Lyman’s class.
Cheryl said “a man came into school and
gave our class some eggs”. She also said that when she saw the eggs she
was happy. Every one of the eggs were white. The first thing they did
with the eggs was put X’s on them. Cheryl said they put X’s on the eggs
so the eggs could be kept nice and warm. One thing the class had to do
with the eggs each day was keep them warm. They use something called a
incubator to keep them alive and heated. The Kindergarten class did
something called candling. candling is when u can use a homemade trinket
to see inside the eggs Cheryl said “it was cool I saw the chick’s in the
eggs”.
The baby chicks take two weeks to hatch
according to Cheryl. They really take 21 days to hatch truly. Cheryl was
really happy when the eggs hatched! The baby chicks eat chicken food and
they have coins in it so they can find it. Cheryl’s favorite part of
raising the baby chicks was looking at them in the eggs.
The Kindergarten class had a great time
raising the chicks.
The Egg Monsters
By Emily
This year in Mr. K’s kindergarten
class the students hatched chicks! One of the students in Mrs. Lyman’s
class is Cheryl.
One day a guy brought in the eggs
for the kindergarten class. When Cheryl saw the eggs she was very happy.
The eggs were white. When they first got the eggs they put X’s on them
to warm them up, they had to do this eleven times a day. They kept the
eggs in an incubator which kept them warm. Sometimes the class would be
candling which is to be able to look inside the egg and see the young
chicks. While the chicks were inside the eggs they ate worms.
It took about a week for the
chicks to hatch. When Cheryl first saw the chicks she was very happy!
They put coins into the chicks food so the chicks would be able to find
it. The chicks ate chicken food. Cheryl’s favorite part of hatching the
chicks was candling.
This was a fun and educational
activity for the kindergarten class. They had a great time doing it.
