Our first chick hatched April 26th!

Mr. Zupin was at school early Tuesday morning to meet the first chick. Then the electricity went out.  Burr.  The eggs are kept in the very warm incubator. The incubator is heated by electricity.  What would happen without this heat?

Mr. Zupin said, "It sounded like power would be out for sometime, so at 9:00a.m. I decided to bring the incubator home along with the baby chick. Time will tell what kind of hatch we will have with all the moving around."

You can see small "peck marks" where additional chicks are trying to hatch.

Why so glum?  Perhaps the boys are sad to leave school and the chicks.

Here is Chick #1.  This chick was greeted by the eager kindergarten students. She traveled, along with the remaining eggs, to Mr. Zupin's house.

Mr. Zupin kept the eggs warm and stood by as the rest of the eggs hatched.
