5th Graders write about the Olympic Opening Ceremony

On February 11th The Onekama Elementary had a version of the Olympic opening ceremony. We entered in this order Greece, Italy, USA, Germany, Sweden, China, France, Norway, and Canada. Then we had the lighting of the flame which wasn't a real flame. After that some of the third and second graders did a play. Next Kiara, Kyle, and I spoke. I did the Olympic oath. We left after that. The opening ceremony was awesome. ~Austin

All we did at the opening ceremony was some announcements, a dance, and the lighting of the torch. The opening ceremony was awesome. ~Lauryn

I really liked the Olympic Ceremony. My class's country is Italy. One of the second grade classes is Sweden. The other is Greece. The third grade is Germany. The first country to march in to the gym was Greece because they started the Olympics. Greece was Mrs. Eichberger's class. The second country to march in was in was the fifth grade, Italy. After that was U.S.A, Canada, and Sweden. Then there were five torch runners. After the torch runners lit the caldron and then the ceremony was over. The Olympic Ceremony was very cool. ~Kyle

On February 11, 2010 the elementary had an Olympic opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was in the gym. Also each class did a country and made flags. My class did Italy. Another thing is at the opening ceremony some kids from different classes and different grades had to go up in front of every and speak. One of the classes did an Olympic dance. Also when the kids had to go up and speak three of them were from my class. The three people from my class were Kiara, Austin, and Kyle. Kyle and Austin had to say a couple sentences, but the only thing Kiara had to say was “Let the Games Begin!" They said that after the torch was lit. Then we all marched around the Olympic cauldron holding our flags. Then after that we marched out. I thought the opening ceremony was neat. ~Kelly

The opening ceremony was so cool. I have not been to opening ceremony. The ceremony was on Feb11. Our class was the second to go in the gym. We did the Italy flag. That is what I like about the opening ceremony.  ~Ashlee

On February 11, 2010, we had an Olympic opening ceremony at school. It was a lot of fun. The first thing that happened was all of the countries walked into the gym. Next, Mrs. Eichberger's class did an Olympic dance. Then, some torch lighters lit a torch in the middle of the gym. Everyone cheered and clapped. Then Kyle said some things about the torch. After he was done, I had to say "Let the games begin!" Everyone cheered and clapped again. I can't wait for the Olympic Games!  ~Kiara

On Thursday February 11, 2010 all elementary students had an opening ceremony for our Olympics. The 5th grade has Italy. Also the game we are doing is the luge. Our flag colors are green, white, and red. We all had to wear our colors. We made flags to carry in. The ceremony was awesome. ~Grace

The opening ceremony for the Olympics was cool. We all walked down quietly with the flags that we made. When we walked in I heard the crowd cheer. Mrs. Brown’s class was the United States so when they walked in the crowd hooted and hollered. Mrs. Bennett’s class was Canada they got quite a bit of cheers themselves. My class was Italy. Our flag is green, white, and red. (Easy to color) Mrs. Eicherberger's class did a net dance and when they were done, everyone hooted and clapped and hollered. And the second graders looked so cute. Then some of the second graders read something about the Olympics. Then Austin or Kyle said to please rise for the Olympic oath. And Kiara said "let the games begin!" I can't wait until the games start. ~Alexis

The Olympic ceremony was very fun! Did you know that Greece walks out first? They do because their country started the Olympics. The country that my class is doing is second. Our country is Italy. I liked the ceremony a lot. ~Kassidy
