Dear
Parents,
We’ve successful completed our first
theme test. Next week we will begin a new reading unit called “The
World Outside My Door.” It includes stories called My River,
Citybook, and Listen to the Desert. Also poems such as “Sleeping
Outdoors,” and “I Love the World.” Over the next few weeks, you
will see four books come home: Our Plants, A Fish Trip, A Walk in
the City and Hats Hats Hats. These books will include new
vocabulary words. Attached is a list of the vocabulary words.
On Monday your child will learn
about personal safety. Sadly, sexual abuse of children takes place
more often than we would like to believe. School programs help
children learn to stay safe from abuse. This lesson presents
material on the children’s level. The skills needed to prevent
abuse are taught in a safe and simple way. Through this lesson,
students will learn:
-
How to judge between a safe and unsafe touch
-
How to
protect themselves
-
Who to
go to for help
I hope you
will take a minute to read the materials sent home today. Please
discuss personal safety with your child at home.
On Wednesday there will be a
substitute in the morning. I am attending a team meeting from 8 –
11 a.m. in the school. |
For those
of you who like to shop online, I’ve learned about a new website
that will benefit our school. This website is Box Tops for
Education. They have links to other popular web sites such as
Target, Lands End, Limited Too, Disney, GAP, Shutterfly, and many
others. They donated a percentage of the sale back to our school.
You will need to sign up in order for us to receive the benefits.
