Mrs. Niederstadt's Weekly Parent Letter
May 7, 2010

Dear Parents,

Yesterday we walked to the Onekama Public Library.  If your child returned his/her books, then s/he was able to check out three books.  All books will be due on Thursday, May 27.  On the 27th this will be our last trip to the library.  Once all your child’s books are returned, then I’ll send home your child’s library card to use for Manistee County Library’s summer reading program.

After we returned from visiting Ms. Jane at the Onekama Public Library, we received a visit from Ms. Andrea, Manistee County Library children’s librarian.  She spoke to us about the reading club and other programs offered at all six branches this summer.  This year we’ve worked hard on establishing a love for reading.  This is a great way to continue improving your child’s reading skills throughout the summer.  Attached is a copy of the schedule.  It’s free!!

Also attached is a “Summer Reading and Math Ideas” flyer about a parent meeting for kindergarten and first grade parents.  This is another great way to help improve your child’s reading skills during the summer.  Mrs. Zajac, our Title 1 teacher will be hosting the meeting on Wednesday, May 19th from 2:30 – 3:00 for first grade parents.  You do need to RSVP by May 14th so we can ensure enough supplies.  Remember you are your child’s best teacher.  I will be assisting Mrs. Zajac during the meeting.  I hope to see you there!

Next week we will study geography.  Our unit will cover the world in spatial terms and then move to places and regions.  I’ve found a great resource from Weekly Reader that will help us cover these topics.

I spoke with Mrs. Joseph, our music teacher about our annual Spring Sing.  In the past we’ve had a theme and some dress code recommendations.  She informed me that there are no dress recommendations for our program this year, but we do ask that students wear performance appropriate clothing.

Please continue to send in tennis shoes on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the rest of the school year.

The following are dates that you may want to add to your calendar:

  • Book Orders Due – May 14
