Mrs. Niederstadt's Weekly Parent Letter
February 5, 2010

Dear Parents,

On Tuesday we will be at Crystal Mountain for Good Behavior Ski Day.  We will leave at 8:30 a.m. and arrive at Crystal Mountain by 9:15 a.m.  Each grade will be called individually into the rental building to receive equipment.  Once everyone is geared up, we will meet at Totem Park for lessons.  Students must participate in lessons to earn their ski tickets.  Once students earn their ski tickets, they can ski outside of Totem Park with adult supervision.  Some students will be at Totem Park the entire day and others will graduate to the ski lifts.  Each chaperone will be responsible for one to two students.  If you are a skiing volunteer, then please check at Totem Park for students able to ski outside of Totem Park.  Please find the enclosed list. Ski rental equipment will be returned around 1:45 p.m.  The busses will leave by 2:15 p.m. and return to school by 2:45 p.m.  It should be a fun day for everyone!  Please remember that your child needs a sack lunch for this day and it would be helpful if your child’s name were on his/her sack/lunch box.  Also pack extra snacks!!

Students should dress in layers.  Also dress your child in sweatpants or running pants.  Jeans are uncomfortable in ski boots and do not go over them.  Students need one pair of socks and should have extra hats, gloves, and socks packed in their bag, if needed.  Please be sure everything is labeled.

On Thursday students are invited to wear their pajamas and slippers for the day.  As always please be sure that they are weather appropriate.  They will be going outside for recesses.  In the morning we have our own Olympic Opening Ceremony in the gym at 8:50 a.m.  Each elementary classroom has chosen a country to represent.  Our country is China.  The real Olympic Opening Ceremony will be Friday, February 12th.  If you would like more information, then visit http://www.vancouver2010.com/

Thursday afternoon we’ll have our Valentine’s party from 11:45 – 2:45 p.m.   Jill Bronson, Amy Evans, Deanna Osga, Jason Pate and Jennifer Platz are our helpers.  You will be in charge of a craft project so please come to the room at 11:30 a.m. for instructionsPhyllis Cederholm (veggies), Amy Evans, Sheila Falk and Lynette Maxey (fruit) will provide our snacks.  Deanna Osga and Jennifer Platz will provide the drink.  Gretchen Burtch will provide the plates.  Samantha Alkire will provide the cups.

Since next week will be a short (and busy) week, there will be no homework or spelling words.  It’s winter break; there is no school on Friday. Feb. 12th or Monday, Feb. 15th.  Enjoy the long weekend.
