Mrs. Niederstadt's Weekly Parent Letter

April 9, 2010

 Dear Parents,

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a fun and restful spring break.

Before spring break we took our math assessment for Unit 6.  Enclosed is your child’s test and Unit 7: Geometry and Attributes parent letter.  The class average was 76%.  In Part A topics should have been easier for your child.  If s/he missed any of these topics, then it would be a good idea to practice at home.  In Part B these were recently introduced topics.

Next week we will begin Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS). The format will be similar to our theme tests.  We will test in the mornings only.  Please be sure your child is to school on time and has had a good breakfast.   We will test on Monday – Thursday from 8:00-9:30.  It would be a good idea to pack a water bottle daily since students are not allowed to move about during testing.

I would like to utilize our new walking track.  Every Tuesday and Thursday we will walk around the track for about 15-20 minutes first thing in the morning until the end of the school year.  Please be sure to pack tennis shoes.  Students are more than welcome to leave their tennis shoes here for the week to save extra packing.

Our new cafeteria is open!  It’s wonderful!  Everyday your child has three choices: daily entree, Uncrustable peanut and jelly sandwich, or soup and salad bar.  Currently there is no microwave yet for our cold lunch students.  On Fridays students are able to purchase item(s) on ala carte.  The choices are string cheese, yogurt (go-gurt, trix yogurt and regular yogurt), flavored milks, flavored waters and juices.  The items range from 50 cents to $1.25.  If you would like your child to purchase ala carte, then please send the money in an envelope labeled with your child’s name and amount.  Or you could add money to your child’s account.  It would be deducted as your child purchase items, but I would like permission (verbal or written).  As I am sure it is difficult to believe, some students would use the money in their account for ala carte rather than lunch.  It just keeps everyone on the same page.  You can view the new cafeteria this Sunday from 1-3 p.m.   During our grand opening the cafeteria will be serving a light lunch, a short showing of the upcoming production of Annie and a slide show of the construction phases.  Also you can view the new band/music room, art room, gymnasium, walking track and fitness center.  Come check it out!

The following are dates that you may want to add to your calendar:
