Dear First Grade Families,

This week during shared reading we learned to read My Five Senses by Margaret Miller. We added words to the word wall and wrote sentences with them. We completed a making words lesson. We played a listening game, a looking game and two sense of touch games.  We ended our senses week by making applesauce.

In math this week we completed our first progress check.  The graded tests came home today.  After a test I give the students a chance to go over their test and fix any mistakes.  You received their graded test and the test they fixed.  Please go over and practice any concepts your child had difficulty with on the test.

I plan to start giving homework on Monday, Oct. 12th.  Your child will need a two pocket folder with their name on it by then.  On the 12th my homework expectations will come home with your child along with their homework sheet for you to sign, as well as one of my books.  Homework on Mondays will be reading.

We will be walking to the Onekama Public library this Monday.  If you have not returned the orange library card please do so on Monday so your child can get books from our public library.  If you are available on Mon. at 11:45 please feel free to join us!  Hopefully the weather will cooperate! J

Your child’s first Book-It pizza Hut coupon came home today.  Please be sure to congratulate them on the wonderful reading they are doing here at school. Enjoy your time with them at Pizza Hut!

We wrote a class paragraph this week about eating an apple.  It came home today.  Have your child read it to you!

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

1)      Can you use the following words in a sentence? We, see, my, with, have

2)    Can you tell me our 5 senses?

3)    Can you tell me a number story?

Have a good weekend! Stay dry!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lyman

         A Class Paragraph

I saw a red apple.  When I picked it up it was hard and smooth. I took a big bite. It was juicy and sweet. It made a crunch sound. It smelled good!
