Dear First Grade Families,

During our shared reading time this week we learned to red Listen to the Desert by Pat Mora.  It had English and Spanish words so we learned some desert animal names in Spanish.  We also wrote about our favorite desert animal, we drew and labeled desert pictures, we looked at pictures of deserts online in the computer lab and we watched a movies about deserts.

During math this week we learned about many patterns on our number grid.  For example, the counting by 5’s pattern, the counting by 2’s pattern and the counting by 3’s pattern.  We also learned about odd and even numbers.

Pictures came home today.  If you are not satisfied with your child’s pictures they may get them retaken.  Picture retakes will be on Monday.

Conferences are next week.  I hope all of you called and scheduled a time to meet with me and go over the report card.  If you haven’t please call Mrs. Bergren as soon as you can and schedule a conference time.

Our library is hosting a book fair.  All the information came home today in a flyer.  Please stop by and see if there are any books you would like for your child.  We visited today so that they could see what books were available.  Books make great Christmas gifts!

Next week is a short week. Monday is a full day and then Tuesday the students are dismissed at 12:30.  There will be no school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving break.

We are having problems with toys being brought to school.  Please do not allow your child to bring any toys to school.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

1)     Can you name an even number?

2)     Can you name an odd number?

3)     What type of animal is a sapito? (toad)

Have a great weekend!  I look forward to seeing you at conferences!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lyman
