Dear First
Grade Families,
This week during shared reading we learned to read One Of Three
by Angela Johnson. We learned about the word endings er, ing, est, ly,
s, and ed. We wrote a class book about being one of nineteen.
Currently during our math time we are reviewing fractions, counting
coins, counting, and adding and subtracting mentally and with the number
grid.
We
are finishing up our geography unit by making a book about where we
live. It starts with our room and ends with our planet, Earth.
As
you may know our Board of Education had to lay-off seven of our teachers
because the state is decreasing how much money they gives us. They would
like to be able to recall some if not all of the teachers and are open
to your suggestions on how they might be able to fix the deficit a
different way. They are holding a work session on May 26th.
If you have questions or suggestions please put them in writing and
bring them to the superintendent’s office by Monday, May 24th. You can
also e-mail suggestions to
marim@manistee.org. In addition to this work session there is a
rally in Manistee at Kennedy Elementary on Monday. Please come out and
show your support for public education. I included a flyer with the
rally details. |
We walked to
the public library last Monday. Your child’s books are due on Monday,
May 31st. Please be sure to turn them in to me or the library
by then. A flyer about the summer program at the public libraries went
home last week. I would encourage you to get your child involved. The
activities they have planned are going to be great!
Our buddy reading beach party is next week Friday beginning at 11:00.
The information and permission slip went home last week. Please return
your child’s signed permission slip by Thursday, May 27th.
Lunch is being provided by Blarney Castle. Please be sure your child is
dressed in layers. It is always much cooler down by the lake.
Our fieldtrip to the Elk Ranch
yesterday was a hit! The kids really enjoyed getting up close and
personal with the elk. Pictures of
our day is on our website.
Monday, May 31st is Memorial Day. There will be no school on
that day. Our field day is scheduled for Tuesday, June 1st
(rain date June 2nd). The last day of school for students is
Thursday, June 3rd.
Have a great weekend! Enjoy this beautiful weather!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman |
