Dear First
Grade Families,
This week during shared reading time we learned to read Eek! There’s
a Mouse in the House by Wong Herbert Yee. We completed a story map,
wrote about what we would do to get a mouse out of our house, learned
about –ed endings and made and read some silent e words. I apologize for
not getting your child’s graded theme tests back to you last week. Time
slipped away from me. Please look for them in today’s folder.
In
math this week we rolled dice to make an addition facts table, learned
about fact families, practiced math facts using fact triangles, and
focused on gaining more fact power.
One of our reading month activities is a book/magazine exchange. If your
child has any books/magazines they would like to donate for the exchange
please bring them in by March 15th. If they bring any in they
will get coupons and then on March 19th they can use their
coupons to get new-used books/magazines. March 24th is Young
Author’s Night here in the Media Center from 6-7 pm. This is a special
opportunity for your child to read their animal research book to a small
group. On March 26th we will be having a pajama day and we
are dedicating most of the day to reading. Your child can bring their
favorite books, a favorite stuffed animal, and their pillow. We will do
a variety of reading activities throughout the day. |
Beginning Monday we are going to try to begin walking to the Public
Library again. It appears that we are being blessed with many nice days
and the snow is almost gone. Please be sure however, that your child is
still coming to school dressed appropriately because Michigan weather
can change quickly.
Questions to ask your child this week are the following:
1)
Can you read the
following words and use them in a sentence? Walked, marched, plane,
paste
2)
Can you make two
addition facts and 2 subtraction facts with the numbers 2, 4, and 6?
3)
Can you count
backwards from 80 to 40?
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman
