Dear First
Grade Families,
During our normal guided reading time this week we completed a
Gingerbread Man unit. We read The Gingerbread Man, completed a story
map, decorated gingerbread men, and measured things in the classroom
with gingerbread men.
On
Thursday we participated in a distance learning activity. A man from a
museum in Wisconsin read us a book called The Christmas Tree Ship
and we made an ornament to help retell the story.
Our class is collecting personal
care items for an Onekama family in need. Please bring in things like
shampoo, bar soap, toothpaste, deodorant, laundry soap, etc. Other
items like tin foil, saran wrap and garbage bags can also be donated. I
would like to thank those of you who have donated items. I appreciate
your contributions.
We will be going to see a movie
in Frankfort on Tuesday, December 22nd. A letter and
permission slip went home. Please return your child’s permission slip
with $5.00 as soon as possible. Going to the movies is our special
event for the day. We will not be having a Christmas party.
Tuesday, December 22nd
is pajama day! Please let your child come to school in their pajamas.
Be sure they are pajamas that will keep them warm enough when they are
out for recess. |
During our Christmas around the
world unit we found Israel on the map, talked about Hanakkuh, and played
the dreidel game. We also found Africa on the map, and made homemade
gifts (zawadi) to give to one another. The last country we found on the
map was Mexico. We learned to count in Spanish, and we have two Spanish
speaking students in our class, Blanca and Perla, who taught us how to
say some Christmas words in Spanish.
Our Christmas Break begins
Wednesday, December 23rd. There will be no school from the
23rd through the 3rd. On Monday, January 4th
school will resume.
Questions to ask your child this
week are the following:
Have a great weekend! Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year too!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman
