Dear First
Grade Families,
This week during shared reading we learned to read the story Tug of
War by Veronica Freeman Ellis. We learned some –ain, -ail, and –ay
words, we wrote an animal story using –er and –est endings, we wrote
about a short elephant story we read, and we had tug-of-war
competitions.
In
math this week we practiced adding money amounts and making change. We
learned about the fractions ½, 1/3, ¼, 1/6, and1/8, and we practiced
dividing up pennies for a variety of different groups to share.
There will be no school tomorrow, April 30th. There is a county-wide
teacher in-service.
Our fieldtrip to the Amber Elk Ranch will be Thursday May 20th.
It will cost $5.00 for your child to go on the trip. If you would like
to join us your cost is $8.00. We are leaving school by about 8:30 and
returning by about 1:30. Your child will need their own lunch that day.
Please have your money and permission slip turned in by Friday, May 7th.

Our Spring Sing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 25th at 7:00
pm. The date I gave last week was incorrect. I will give you more
information when it becomes available.
I
will no longer be assigning daily homework, but please continue
practicing math targets, flashcards, sight words, and reading and
retelling books with your child. Next week, May 3rd through 5th,
I will be giving the 90 word spelling test again to determine your
child’s growth in spelling.
Questions to ask your child this week are the following:
1)
Can you use the following words in a sentence? Trail, way, brain,
stronger, fastest
2)
Can you draw a square and divide it in half? Can you divide it
into fourths?
Have a good weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman
This spring the Daisy
Girl Scouts did a great job cleaning up the area. Thank you,
