Educator’s
Philosophy
I believe that everything is connected. The
arts, language, mathematics, sciences, our environment, the moon, stars,
and sun, how we interact with people, how much we know about ourselves,
how we learn, why we love what we love, etc… IT’S ALL CONNECTED.
I believe that everyone learns and
comprehends objectives at different times.
Don’t worry if your child is “not up to grade
level.” Young children are not all potty-trained at the same time and
they don’t learn to read at the same time either.
I believe that overuse of media is decreases
the child’s desire for knowledge and experiences. This means continuous
television viewing and excessive video game play. Is the television
always on in the home? If so, consider turning it off during meals.
Replace the nightly family sitcom with a good family story. Go to the
library. It’s free and the materials are endless!
I believe that quality literature and
meaningful content greatly enhance learning thus increasing the
student’s desire for knowledge.
Finally…
“Know Thyself”
I forgot who said that, but it is important thing
to remember as a teacher. It is easy for educators to get so involved
with their student’s lives they tend to forget about their own needs and
ignore their own personal development. Students need teachers who
continue to develop and learn as well, therefore during the summer
months I immerse myself in creative projects such as audio recording,
film production, modern dance, music, and the documentation of folklore.
It is through these personal ventures that I gain the inspiration and
stamina to teach. |
