Language – Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Spelling

Each objective is INTRODUCED in their respective quarter.  Once skill is introduced then they are continually used.  You may reinforce these objectives by reading with your child at home, assisting with their weekend journal activities, and going to the library. 

First Quarter Curriculum  Sept, Oct,  Nov

  1. Identify and use effectively nouns, verbs, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, subjects and predicates
  2. Identify story elements, sequence events
  3. Compare and contrast characters and events.
  4. Express ideas in logical sequence (speaking and writing)
  5. Write personal stories
  6. Write non-fictional story
  7. Work towards neat handwriting
  8. Writes legibly
  9. Work toward greater reading independence
  10. Identify word families
  11. Summarizes a story or passage.
  12. commas in a series
  13. read aloud using expression  - emphasizing key words

Second Quarter Curriculum Dec - Jan

  1. Correctly spell two syllable words with common suffixes and prefixes

  2. Identify word families

  3. Produce and present a research paper with assistance.

  4. Write a paragraph

  5. Write poetry

  6. Write a fictional story

  7. Writes legibly using cursive and manuscript

  8. Quotation marks and capitalization in dialogue.

  9. past tense

  10. nouns as possessive nouns

  11. participate in meaningful discussion with peers

Third Quarter Curriculum Feb – Mar.

  1. Write a letter

  2. Write poetry

  3. Give a presentation

  4. Write two paragraphs

Fourth Quarter Curriculum Apr. May

  1. Cursive is primary writing method if student is ready.
