Game Night

On Thursday nights (instead of regular homework) I am hoping you and your family can gather to play games. Some of the games we will make together in class and send home. Some of the games hopefully you have already at your home or can purchase. Please let me know if you need more support/materials with the games we make here at school.

On game night the assignment is to pick a game you feel will be most beneficial to your (second grade) child and fun for all. Gather all who are willing to play and play a few games together. It is my intention that the games will facilitate learning but also bring the family together. If our game night doesn’t work for you, just swap assignments with a different night to do it. I understand that everyone has different schedules.

Here are some suggestions for games that can be found at most stores that I like to shop at (Target, Meijer, K-Mart)!: Yahtzee, Cadoo, Boggle, Scrabble and Scrabble Junior, Smath, Sorry!, Monopoly, and any other board or dice game that the children need to read, follow directions, and/or practice math skills. A company named Cranium makes some really neat games for the whole family also. I realize some of these games are not cheap, even at my favorite stores. I would be happy to lend out the games I have. Write a note on the homework sheet and I will send a game of your choice home for the night. We will be making a few throughout the year, practicing them in class, and taking them home. If you have any games you find fun and meaningful I would love to hear of them.
