Mrs. Niederstadt's Parent Letter

September 26, 2008

Dear Parents,

Today we walked to the Onekama Public Library.  Students were able to check out three books.  They are due on Friday, October 17th.  We walk to the library every three weeks to return books and check out more.  If you are able to join us, then we would love to have you join us.

In this week’s Friday Folder, your child’s work was graded with letter grades.  There are four grades given, they are S+=Achieved, S=Progressing Successfully,

S-=Beginning to Develop and U=Experiencing Difficulty. Some papers are stamped with “The Wall of Fame.”  These papers are the best of the best, because they have included correct answers, best writing, best coloring, no backward letters or numbers and the date.  If your child has this stamped on one of his/her papers, then congratulate him/her on a job well done.

A few lunch notes for this year.  Our school offers breakfast in the morning.  If your child is interested, then the cost is $1.00.  Students do not need to wait in the line outside of the building; they are able to enter the building by the superintendent’s office.  In years past, Mrs. Keith used to bring around a breakfast cart.  This is no longer available.  Students need to eat in the cafeteria now.

As you know lunch is available for $2.25.  The menu is limited this year due to our construction.  Students have one choice for hot lunch.  We look forward to more choices next year in our new facility.  Milk is $.50.  On Fridays students are able to purchase a variety of items for 50 cents each such as Go-Gert, ice cream cups, fruit snacks, and cookies.  Also many of the school organizations such as safety patrol, fourth-fifth grade classes, cheerleaders, etc. have a bake sale on most Fridays.  Fridays are a popular day for purchasing goodies.  You may want to send in 50 cents in order for your child to participate and support these different groups.

Another good cause is our school store.  It’s located in the display case by the Media Center (library).  It contains pens, pencils, markers, highlighters, notebooks, folders, etc.  Items range from $.50 to $2.50.  We will participate once each month.  Our first visit will be October 3rd.  It’s sponsored by our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO).  They use the profits to sponsor our visits to local theaters, March is Reading month activities, treats for MEAP week, Good Behavior Ski Day, Good Behavior Field Day, field trips, and much more.

During the month of October our classroom will collect items for the food pantry.  We will collect until Wednesday, October 29th.  All items collected will be distributed to families in our area.

If you are interested in receiving this parent letter electronically, then please email me at sniederstadt@manistee.org .   Also if you have any questions or concerns, then you may contact me via email or at 889-9674 ext. 436.  The best way to contact me is via email.  It is difficult for me to get to the phone during the day.
